The University of Pittsburgh Med-Div of Cardiology Medicine department is seeking a Research Assistant to support activities in NIH and foundation-sponsored health services research studies.
This individual will travel to many clinics across Allegheny county and other counties in Northwest PA (including Mercer, Venango, Lawrence, and Erie) throughout the study period. This individual will be responsible for study administration and correspondence, screening medical records, subject recruitment, administering informed consent and questionnaires to study participants, and entering relevant data into pre-formed data entry protocols. Effective communication skills and strong organizational skills are required.
Responsibilities include: providing administrative support, which may span varied tasks such as literature searches, preparing and formatting documents, and others as necessary to support the project manager and the conduct of the study; professionally interfacing with study staff as part of a team-based environment; presenting the study to health professionals and potential participants; meeting with participants to conduct informed consent and administer study instruments.
Excellent verbal communication skills are necessary for interactions with participants and co-workers. Flexibility and the ability to learn new skills quickly are necessary. The position will provide broad exposure to the development and implementation of a patient-centered health services research intervention and extensive interaction with study subjects.
Professional manner, excellent communication, highly responsible, interest in learning new skills, and ability to initiate problem-solving are highly preferred. Experience in clinical research or related work involving data management is preferred but not essential. Excellent inter-personal skills essential, especially strong interviewing skills. Experience with data entry preferred. Prior employment in a setting requiring interpersonal contact.
