Drew University is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni & Parent Communities (“APC”) as part of the Office of University Advancement. Drew’s Alumni & Parent Communities program is innovative in its approach and focuses on the University’s Launch initiative, a concept that guarantees student access to programming and mentors to support their professional and career development goals. Building on programs already developed, including Launch, Drew Connect (an online networking platform), a Graduates of the Last Decade Committee (“GOLD”), and an active Student Alumni Association (“SAA”), the assistant director position will focus on the continued growth of programs that meet the needs of targeted markets, utilizing both innovative and traditional ways.
The Assistant Director will support the Director in aligning alumni and parent engagement with the University’s Launch and Drew Connect initiatives and in strategically engaging alumni and parents in meaningful ways via avenues (both live and virtual) that are seamlessly aligned with the mission and work of the University. The Assistant Director will engage with graduates of the last decade and manage the GOLD Committee, a group whose work is focused primarily on career/professional development and community/student engagement and, thus, is also strongly aligned with student and alumni success. The Assistant Director will also work with the SAA to support student efforts to network and connect with alumni in support of their post-college planning efforts. This position also assists with management of the University’s alumni boards, as well as the customer service components of the APC office.
With the director, manages the backend of Drew Connect, including supporting efforts to increase the number of members within the platform, ensuring members are responsive to one another in a timely fashion, driving discussion posts, and reviewing platform analytics.
With the director, serves as an Advancement team liaison to the Center for Immersive Learning and Career Design (“CILCD”).
With the director—and with the support of the office’s trained student workers—ensures that the team is responsive to alumni and parent communications (email, telephone, in person) in a timely manner.
Manages and works with the GOLD Committee to continue to develop opportunities to engage and steward our GOLD alumni, including identifying alumni who are willing to share their expertise and experiences with students. This effort will include collaboration with the CILCD to involve additional recent graduates in career and identity/affinity communities (and on Drew Connect), as well as development of independent programming.
Creates and staffs GOLD activities.
Works with the SAA to provide opportunities for our students to connect with alumni and to educate students about the importance of “giving back”.
Serves as a staff liaison to the College Alumni Association (“CAA”) Executive Board and supports the director’s efforts with other alumni boards and the college’s parent council.
Manages the Drew Alumni and SAA Instagram accounts, develops and updates content for the office’s web pages, and works with the Communications Department liaison to execute marketing and social media strategies.
Manages and staffs other events, as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Alumni & Parent Communities.
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent experience
Experience working in higher education
Proven ability to motivate and work effectively with groups and individuals
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong computer literacy and skills and solid understanding of social media
Demonstrated organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
