Graphic Designer (Part-time/Temporary), Institute for Reproductive Health - Georgetown University Medical Center
Institute for Reproductive Health (IRH) seeks an experienced Graphic Designer to assist with developing a variety of products. The ideal candidate will have a background in both print and digital/web design. Working closely with programmatic and research teams, the designer will be responsible for creating exceptional communications materials, including briefs, program documents (How-to-Guides; Toolkits), reports, one-pagers/two-pagers, banners, scientific posters, presentations, slide decks, peer-reviewed paper graphics and figures, infographics, meeting/event/webinar invitations, etc. The designer will use program information and data to create original products and graphics optimized for print and/or webpages and multiple social channels. The designer is also responsible for following branding and marking guidelines for each individual product, as relevant. The designer will also be responsible for ensuring products follow a general style, look and feel, by project. The ideal candidate is creative and versatile, with experience working on dynamic projects with multiple ongoing products and, ideally, with both internal and external teams. They will be part-time (1-2 days per week, but flexible) and temporary, in the Washington, D.C. office.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Oversee design projects from conception to delivery;
Design original pieces, including illustrations and infographics;
Refine images, fonts, and layouts using graphic design software;
Generate ideas to portray concepts for products;
Increase user friendliness in products;
Maintain brand consistency through all projects;
Create data visualization graphs and charts from data for use in presentations and publications;
Develop designs and other material for web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects;
Other duties for this role will be assigned as necessary/appropriate.
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interactive Design, Industrial Design, or Visual Communication Design preferred
Background in design or communications preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in digital/interactive design
An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating exceptional visual design skills and innovative interactive work
Strong aesthetic skills with the ability to combine various fonts, colors, and layouts
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); presentation design and visual communications collateral creation required
Strong understanding of international development and non-for profit work preferred
Understanding and experience in public health or specifically, adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health an asset
Experience working on donor-funded products an asset
Detailed knowledge of typography, color, and photography both on and offline
A thorough understanding of emerging trends, standards, and best practices in design
Experience preparing mock-ups and design specifications for delivery to colleagues
A passion for creating high-quality, cutting edge materials
Experience in research utilization and data visualization
Ability to translate complicated global development stories into accessible design experiences
Ability to create intuitive designs that deliver the best possible user experience
Strong visual orientation - the kind of person who processes the world by sketching in notebooks, or similar
Excellent verbal and written communicator; people-person
Excellent organization and time management skills, including ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond rapidly to new events and competing priorities in person or virtually
Detail oriented, self-motivated and comfortable working in a small, collaborative team environment
Excellence in all MS Office Applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint
