The University of Rhode Island, the State’s public flagship research institution, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, engaged and active leader to serve as the inaugural Director of the Department of IT Teaching and Learning Services. Working with the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, you will be responsible for leading digital transformation of student learning experiences in service to all 17,000 students at the University.
As a direct report to the CIO of the University, you will be a member of the senior IT leadership team. This team is reorganizing into a service-oriented structure, establishing new IT services, continuously deploying new tools and always striving to work across departments and the university with our colleagues to best serve the needs of the University. IT services at the University are equally divided between central and distributed IT staff, and working in partnership with distributed IT staff is a key aspect of this role.
The University has just begun the transition to a new LMS (Brightspace), and you will have the opportunity to help guide this mission-critical project. The University of Rhode Island is also launching a new URI-online program, and the new Director will be a key member of both the strategic and tactical teams. In addition to the opportunity to take a leadership role in these two major projects, the new Director will also assist the University to anticipate and prepare for the next wave of digital disruption, including AI augmented learning, digitally assisted student success programs, support of our maker space environments and personalized learning. Lead service delivery for all Teaching and Learning Services. Actively partner with the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning to support faculty pedagogical objectives through the deployment and support of technology tools. Maintain a deep knowledge of emerging trends in the field, conduct pilot deployments of new tools and bring best of breed technology to the University of Rhode Island. Actively collaborate with distributed IT staff in the colleges to scale up innovative approaches. Work with partners across the University to develop, enhance and help deliver online courses and programs.
As part of the IT leadership team, collaboratively deliver IT Professional Services including consulting, training, analytics and service management as they relate to the primary service groups of the department. Coordinate and mange student worker integration and training efforts both within and beyond IT Services. Actively collaborate and communicate with ITS partners in distributed IT as well as key stakeholders for the department. Lead, inspire, motivate and evaluate the work of the unit while striving for continuous process improvement and staff professional development.
