Potomac State College, part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking qualified candidates for a Social Media Content Creator.
The Social Media Content Creator will conceptualize and create compelling photo, video, and social media content that tells the story of WVU Potomac State College. They will balance a high level of writing, content creation, content development and editing with a savvy knowledge of social media monitoring, posting and engagement on a variety of platforms. The Social Media Content Creator is able to produce high-quality social media posts and campaigns to support WVU Potomac State College.
The Social Media Content Creator should be a highly motivated self-starter who jumps at the chance to grab a camera and create fresh and engaging branded content on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will be extremely savvy on all social media platforms and able to create content appropriate for each. The Social Media Content Creator will work across departments and closely with the College's marketing team to execute on brand marketing initiatives, but will also be encouraged and expected to execute original ideas.
They will manage the unit's social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.) on a day-to-day basis, which includes developing copy, taking/editing photographs, shooting/editing video and more.
The Social Media Content Creator must be capable of working independently, producing reliable, high-quality content with minimal supervision or editing. At the same time, they must be capable of working collaboratively on projects, engaging those from other College units and groups. In addition, the Social Media Content Creator must be comfortable to help spread success stories and showcase WVU Potomac State College as leaders in the industry.
The Social Media Content Creator brings a high level of talent to the WVU Potomac State College University Relations and Enrollment Management teams, along with a solid background built on years of experience creating content on social media for a variety of purposes and organizations. The Social Media Content Creator is the key storyteller for the units, in that they speak to/with constituents on a day-to-day basis.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Conceptualize and create engaging organic social media content (including but not limited to posts, photos/videos, GIFs, Instagram Stories).
Shoot and edit videos for social media and other digital uses.
Take and edit high-quality photographs for use in social media and also in other marketing and branding efforts.
Identify ways to build WVU's visibility and enhance its reputation through innovative use of social media platforms.
Collaborate with units, offices, groups, etc., at WVU Potomac State College to create social media content.
In conjunction with the project manager, handle end-to-end creative production and sourcing of content for all social brand channels.
Continually drive creative experimentation, video storytelling innovation and student/faculty experiences.
Develop and execute social media campaigns and projects that align with department, division, unit and University goals.
Find ways to actively engage various audiences on social media.
Monitor and update social media in crisis situations.
Prepare monthly reporting to show success with social media to leadership within the College and WVU System.
Monitor trends in marketing and social media to help strategize whether it is appropriate for a University function.
Leverage competitive intelligence to provide leadership on how WVU should innovate and evolve.
Showcase WVU Potomac State College's social media success through conference presentations, blog posts, social media and more.
Share expertise through social media workshops/presentations around the campus, state and country.
Provide customer service via the platforms for those with questions/concerns.
Fully understand the WVU System and WVU Potomac State College missions, visions, values, goals and brands.
Strategize alongside WVU Morgantown's award-winning and industry leading social media team to develop strategic content for system-wide priorities.
Make suggestions to social media managers across campus with advice and expectations
Perform related duties as assigned/directed.
Work Hours: Varied; Requires occasional evening/weekend hours
Bachelor's degree required in communications, marketing, journalism, multi-media or a related field. (Equivalent, significant, directly related experience may be substituted for education requirement.)
Two to three years of related experience in videography, photography, content creation for social media, writing, etc.
Demonstrated excellence of all popular social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
Demonstrated excellence in writing social media posts, blogs; familiarity in writing press releases, news stories, etc.
Demonstrated experience interviewing, editing, photography and videography
Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage priorities and projects effectively
Ability to operate the necessary computer, software, web-based and other high tech, emerging equipment, and perform various communications duties using a broad range of web and publishing programs (graphic, photo and video editing; content management systems; media monitoring distribution systems; archival programs)
Ability to carry photographic and video equipment up to 30 pounds
Valid driver's license
