Clinical Informatics Position in the Division of Hospital Medicine
The UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine is seeking faculty with background and skills in applied informatics for our core Clinician-Educator positions. This position will combine academic work in clinical informatics along with clinical time as a hospitalist at UCSF. The exact allocation of clinical versus academic time will be determined based on the candidate’s training, accomplishments, and academic goals. Completion of a fellowship in clinical informatics (or its equivalent) will be viewed favorably, but is not required.
Successful candidates will have evidence of, or high potential for, outstanding leadership and scholarship in applied informatics. Competitive candidates will be graduates of excellent internal medicine programs with strong clinical references and who have a demonstrated track record of operational or academic achievement in clinical informatics. Ideal applicants should be proficient in a data science capable language, such as R, Python or Stata, and be willing to learn or already be proficient in SQL. Existing familiarity with the Epic-based electronic health system is desired, but not mandatory.
Clinical responsibilities will involve clinical experiences on teaching and direct care hospitalist services. Candidates will have access to the robust clinical, research, faculty development, and quality improvement infrastructure within the Division of Hospital Medicine. UCSF also offers an active, growing applied clinical informatics research environment. The candidate will be encouraged to situate their research activities within one or more applied clinical informatics institutes and centers at UCSF. In particular, the Institute for Computational Health Sciences (http://bakarinstitute.ucsf.edu/) engages faculty focused on big data and precision medicine. The Center for Clinical Informatics and Improvement Research (https://medicine.ucsf.edu/cliir) engages faculty focused on understanding how to use digital tools to improve healthcare quality and value.
We strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds or who can make a unique contribution to diversity to apply. Interested applicants for all positions should upload a letter of interest, their CV, statement of research, statement of contributions to diversity, and contacts for three references. Candidates should be sure to describe their training background and specific skills related to clinical informatics, including but not limited to facility with different programming languages, background in computer science, and operational or scholarly work related to informatics.
Candidates must possess an MD degree, be board certified/eligible, and be eligible for licensure in the State of California. For more information on the Division of Hospital Medicine, visit our website at https://ucsfhealthhospitalmedicine.ucsf.edu/.
