The Chief Information Officer provides effective leadership to all aspects of technological integration into the college and ensures that technology investments are supporting the institutional strategic plan and priorities. The Chief Information Officer establishes policy in all areas of academic and information technology and is responsible for strategic planning, management, leadership and vision regarding the college's application of technology.
The CIO is responsible for overseeing and directing the overall operations, daily activities, and staff of the Information Technology Department ensuring College-wide systems integration, maximum operating efficiency of systems, equipment, and procedures as well as overall cost effectiveness of information technology operations. Responsible for the management and the delivery of all technological services including preparing and managing the IT budget.
Provides leadership and direction in the review, planning, development and implementation of information technology systems, equipment, and procedures to ensure College-wide systems integration, maximum operating efficiency, and sound fiscal management.
Assist in College-wide strategic planning for information technology initiatives and determines department goals and objectives, priorities, policy direction, technology projects, and the future direction of the College's information technology function.
Prepare and manage the IT budget for the college.
Oversees and directs all operations and daily activities of the Information Technology Department to ensure the development, implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of all systems, equipment, policies, and procedures to best meet the current and changing technology needs of the college.
Identifying user needs, resolving problems and directing the building of teams to work across all levels of the organization.
Ensure that the college meets all regulatory requirements established by the US Department of Education, Mass IT, the comptroller's office and the MA department of higher education regarding safeguarding of information and ensuring that our systems are safe from malicious attacks.
Networks with the other 14 community college IT leadership to ensure that RCC is taking advantage of joint planning, training, and funding opportunities across the state community college system.
Provides direct supervision to all IT staff and works to ensure the staff have the skills and training necessary to do their jobs.
Manages relationships with IT service providers and vendors, including the primary IT consultants at Campus Works.
Bachelor's degree in Information/Computer Science; advanced degree strongly preferred.
CISSP certified preferred.
One or more of the following certifications: Comp TIA A+, CSA+, CASP, CCNA, CCNP, VMware VCP6, MCSA.
8+ years of related experience preferably includes 4 years of direct project development and management experience.
Minimum of 3 years of experience directly supervising staff.
Ability to initiate and direct multiple technical projects in support of strategic and operational goals.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, influence and negotiation skills.
Effective organization, prioritization, time management, and project development and project management skills.
An understanding of and commitment to the mission of an urban institution serving a diverse student body.
Knowledge of and ability to support server Operating Systems, supporting related software, hardware configuration, maintenance and server deployment in a multiple domain local and wide area network (LAN/WAN).
Knowledge of higher education enterprise systems preferred. (Currently using Jenzabar.)
Demonstrates ability to manage complex/varied tasks simultaneously and with confidentiality.
Ability to work will all levels of College personnel including executive staff.
