The Augsburg University Department of Art and Design invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Graphic Design ( with a multi-disciplinary practice) beginning August 24, 2020. Through experiential learning and critical engagement, the Department of Art and Design fosters understanding of, and respect for, the crucial societal contributions of art and design. The Department's mission is to consistently provide students a sound basis for visual literacy and appreciation, accomplishment in art making, an understanding of historical context, and provide opportunities for community engagement and visibility. Pedagogy is structured to allow students to access their own agency by focusing on creative problem-solving and expression. The successful candidate will typically teach a six (6) course-load per academic year (3/3 course load per semester) including foundation and advanced courses in graphic design, digital media as well as potential courses in studio arts. Successful candidates possess a high level of intercultural competency and are able to effectively teach and interact with students from diverse social and cultural identities and backgrounds. Candidates are thus encouraged to highlight skills and experiences that demonstrate these abilities.
Responsibilities for this position include teaching a variety of undergraduate major courses and lower division, non-major courses; advising/mentoring students; contributing to the field through artistic practice and/or academic scholarship; serving on departmental and university committees; participating in administrative duties; and collaborating on departmental initiatives.
Required for this position: Terminal degree in the field (MFA or PhD in art or design) by the start date; a strong record of presentations, and exhibitions/projects, and/or publications in area of interest that demonstrates commitment to a studio practice.
