The Penn Libraries is recruiting a Director of Educational Technology and Learning Management to lead strategic technological innovation and operations for teaching, learning, and instructional design at the Penn Libraries. Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost of Technology and Digital Initiatives, responsible for the educational technology and learning management services of the Penn Libraries including campus-wide courseware management, learning innovation and instruction, two learning commons and a digital media lab. Manages day-to-day operations and a staff of approximately a dozen educational technologists, librarians and instructional designers, sets policies, coordinates services, creates long-term strategic plans, develops partnerships and, as part of the Librariesâ™ IT cabinet, shares responsibility for the overall technology operations of the Penn Libraries. Coordinates the implementation and assessment of programs and services that support advancements in pedagogy and enhance the learning experience at Penn. Fosters the development of new service programs that engage the entire Penn community while recognizing and addressing the specific needs of individual schools and/or disciplines.
The Director ofÂ EducationalÂ TechnologyÂ and Learning Management partners with faculty, students and staff to support the Universityâ™s pedagogy and course offerings by promoting the use of current and emerging technologies across classroom, online, other learning environments that partner libraries resources to enhance the teaching mission of the University.Collaborates with colleagues in the academic community at Penn to think creatively about the implementation of educational technology and optimize the use of courseware on campus, and develop effective programming for innovative learning spaces such as the Weigle Information Commons, the Education Commons and the Collaborative Classroom. Leads a team of expert, innovative and service-oriented librarians in developing and delivering cutting edge services that support 24x7 library use. Working with senior colleagues, develops programs for innovative and ergonomic renovation of library space.
Manage day-to-day operations of educational technology and learning management
Coordinate courseware support services
Interact with faculty and the Center for Teaching and Learning staff on pedagogical initiatives
Coordinate building use policies, procedures and engagement initiatives for teaching spaces across Penn Libraries
Work with Associate Vice Provost for IT and Digital Strategy, Director of the Libraries and other senior managers on strategic initiatives
Plan and execute public programs
Master of Library Science, or its equivalent in theory and practice, is required; an additional graduate degree is preferred.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible and productive library experience in public services.
An understanding of research universities, their organization and function and current issues in higher education.
A working familiarity with courseware systems and the evolving pedagogical landscape in higher education is highly preferred.
A record of excellent working relationships with faculty, students, library staff and administrators.
A vision for the future of university research library services.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
A record of collegial leadership in initiating and implementing user-based library services and programs.
An ability to be effective in system-wide planning, oversight and administration of the Libraries while working collaboratively and effectively across divisional lines.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage staff at all levels of the organization.
