JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
BASIC FUNCTION: Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Operates specialized X-ray equipment and performs various mammography related procedures including screenings and diagnostic studies. Develops and evaluates images for technical quality such as density contrast, definition and distortion. Operates X-Ray equipment and performs a variety of mammography related procedures. Explains procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventative breast health. Responsibilities also include preparing and maintaining records and files and cleaning and adjusting equipment as needed. Performs duties in alignment with patient safety protocols. Participates actively in Quality Control, improvement processes, departmental meetings and initiatives, as well as other various meetings as assigned. At times, may be required to cover the Diagnostic Imaging reception area. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of medical radiation physics and theory, the ability to give and evaluate patient care during imaging examinations. Knowledge of District policies, regulations and procedures in administering radiation and imaging patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to safely administer imaging examinations. Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skilled in preparing and maintaining records, both in written and digital format. Responds to correspondence in a variety of formats. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain performance improvement and quality control standards. Ability to comply with GRHD policies and procedures while performing the functions of the job. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred, but not required. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in Meditech, PACS, Allscripts EHR, Allscripts ED, Pyxis, Picom, Microsoft Office, Kronos, ECI, Omnicare, and QHN.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This position performs tasks that involve Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids or tissues. Exposure to patients’ conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells and diseases are common. Frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology. Valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registration in Mammography. Associate Degree of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Sciences from an AMA approved school preferred. Must have current BLS card within 3 months of initial employment and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment.
Experience: Prefer at least one year of professional radiology experience in a hospital patient care setting. Certification in Mammography ARRT (M) is required. Experience operating whole ABUS preferred. Knowledge of MQSA and FDA rules and regulations regarding Mammography.
