If you are an aspiring recreation manager, camp director, travel planner, nature guide, outdoor instructor, this might be a good fit for you. This position is diverse in its requirements, exciting, and every day is unique. We are looking for an intern who can assist with, design, and lead outdoor/environmental programs for our GO•REC brand. High adventure activities include target sports, aquatics, team challenge courses, climbing wall, winter sports, instructional classes, outings and gear shop operations. Responsibilities include daily operations, fiscal management, risk management, policies and procedures, scheduling and event planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Coordinate with team to manage programs & education to grow participation
Assist with day-to-day carrying out of events, customer service, resource allocations
Enforce high level of safety
Planning and development of new programs
Manage multiple projects as needed
Any and all other duties as assigned by the GO•REC Director
Super passionate about nature, travel, outdoor recreation, and leadership
Passionate about social media and everything video/social
Must be 21 years of age or older
Possession of valid driver’s license
Pass a criminal background check and receive a clean Central Registry Clearance from the State of Michigan Department of Human Resources
Must have good written and verbal communication skills and have the ability tocommunicate effectively and positively with GO•REC vendors, customers, employees, volunteers and the public at large
Must have experience with and ability to use computer programs including but not limited to G Suite Apps, social media platforms, digital cameras, etc.
Strong skills in leadership, building relationships, public speaking, mentoring
Experience supervising and leading outdoor activities, including high risk adventures
Have or be able to complete certifications in ServSafe Food Handling, Wilderness First Aid, CPR, AED, (Wilderness) Lifeguarding, etc.
Passion for working all types of guest including youth and adults
Assists communications team with promotional materials and social media content to promote outdoor programs.
Assists facilities staff with oversight of reservations, including special and last minute requests, providing exceptional service and problem solving for guests.
Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule that will vary from week to week and season to season, including holidays, to accommodate GO•REC’s programs, rentals, and guests
Must be able to work on multiple tasks and be flexible with changes in project priorities

Currently enrolled in college and working towards a Bachelor's or Associate’s Degree
Work within and around GO•REC
An open and flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
Work can be within a building but will also include the following: offices, grounds, woods, waterfronts, areas at height, and various program areas at GO•REC
Exposure to various forms of machine noise
Exposure to extreme cold conditions or warm conditions when working outside in the winter and summer months

GOREC is Greilick Outdoor Recreation & Education Center just outside Traverse City, Michigan. Our 500 wooded lakeside acres managed for wildlife habitat is freely open to the public and a basecamp for adventure with hiking and biking trails adjacent to public land. Ours is a fast-paced, fun, and innovative team. The team is outdoor enthusiastic: skiing and snowshoeing, mountain biking, hunting and fishing, backpacking, and an adventure runner. We are working toward becoming a leading community resource over the next 4 years: getting people outside and teaching best practices for outdoor recreation.
