Student Life at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Front-end Designer (Professional Technologist 2.311). This position assists with the design and front-end development of Student Life websites and web applications. They are responsible for assisting with research, development and implementation of the latest web technologies including responsive design, development of methodology/process for designing websites, and progressive enhancement techniques. They will also assist with the development and implementation of the WVU Brand for digital with focus on Student Life websites and communication. The incumbent will be responsible for digital delivery of Unews and other student life communication through HTML email. Must learn cutting edge web technologies, share information, train and assist contributors to Student Life websites.
In order to be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will:
Write clean, minimal markup by using Sass to minimize markup for website styles.
Wield the power of a content management system (CMS) and create templates.
Will perform performance tests to improve code including troubleshooting with various browsers.
Adopter of version control systems like Git and Subversion.
Understand how to use, work with, and troubleshoot issues in a command line interface (CLI).
Create websites from inspiration to completion (content audit, wireframe, branding, etc.)
Design into the next evolutionary stage.
Have a strong sense of craftsmanship and sense of design.
Adjust according to design critiques to evolve mockups and prototypes.
Sketch ideas on paper before using prototyping tool of choice (Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML & CSS, etc.
Tell the story of a product or service with sharp copy and crisp imagery
Other duties assigned
Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, Multimedia or related field
Two (2) years' experience with:
Web design mockups in Photoshop or Illustrator
Creating html email
Integrating designs into content management systems
