The Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri (MU) is seeking a full-time Director for the Institute of Public Policy (IPP) to oversee rigorous policy research that supports faculty, practitioners, and policymakers in Missouri and nationally. The Director will provide academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for the IPP and its affiliated faculty and staff.
The Institute of Public Policy was launched in 2000 by MU's Truman School of Public Affairs for the purpose of providing a university source of independent public policy analysis.
IPP works to examine critical public policy issues for policy makers and citizens through non-partisan research and policy analysis, program evaluation, training, and consulting (https://ipp.missouri.edu/). IPP's capacity and expertise has recently been expanded by a merger with the Office of Social Economic Data Analysis (OSEDA). For 40 years, OSEDA has provided decision and policy support by developing tools to gather and manage data, including developing web-based applications, data management and data analysis systems, and providing the expertise to transform data into useful information through applied research (https://oseda.missouri.edu).
This position is a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track, ranked faculty position with an administrative appointment.
Key Responsibilities include:
Providing leadership by:
Collaborating with faculty from the Truman School, MU Extension, the Department of Applied Social Sciences, and the broader academic and policy community to perform research that addresses local, state, and national needs;
Ensuring that IPP staff and partners produce rigorous and high quality research products;
Engaging in research through collaboration, outreach, grant and contract funding; and
Disseminating findings to research, practitioner, and policymaker audiences.
Working with the Truman School director to:
Oversee all aspects of faculty, staff and project management;
Develop and implement strategies to secure additional funding from public and private sources to support Institute programs and initiatives; and
Manage the resources, personnel and implementation of policy analysis services, projects, education programming, and other Institute initiatives.
Developing and pursuing a strategic vision for IPP by:
Working with the IPP Advisory Board and academic partners--the Truman School, Extension, and the Department of Applied Social Sciences; and
Engaging in innovative outreach initiatives at the state, regional and national levels of government and be a recognized leader across the university and the state.
An earned Ph.D. in public policy, public administration, economics, political science, community development, or a closely related field.
Professional experience in designing, conducting, and evaluating policy analysis research, services, or education programs, preferably including demonstrated leadership working with state and local government.
Experience with sponsor research preferred.
