Job DescriptionJob Summary: This position will be responsible for providing transactional legal support to Greystar s investment management business including, but not limited to: Greystar s balance sheet financings and investments, including bond offerings, global fund sponsor co-investments and technology and innovations investments. This position will also provide support to Greystar s flexible housing initiative and other new initiatives as they arise and will be involved in establishing processes and procedures that mitigate risk and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements applicable to such businesses. Further, his position will work with Greystar s Legal Global Practice Team in establishing and implementing best practices, processes, and policies within the legal and regulatory area to support the execution of Company s global investment management strategy. Essential Responsibilities:
Provide legal advice and guidance on transactional activities related to proposed investment and financing opportunities, including bond offerings, investment funds and venture capital transactions.
Provide structuring and transaction support for Greystar s global fund sponsor co-investments and employee co-investments, in coordination with Greystar s Tax, Employee Equity and Corporate Finance teams.
Prepare, review and/or negotiate contracts, agreements and other legal documentation required for investment and operations activities of the investment management business.
Stay abreast of emerging issues and market practices in the private equity real estate and real estate technology industries, provide updates and advisories to senior leaders, and recommend, develop and implement policies, practices and other strategies to ensure compliance and mitigate or reduce risk.
Coordinate and collaborate with Global Practice Team leaders on initiatives to help develop best practices and ensure consistency related to Greystar operating policies, agreement terms and other practices globally.
Coordinate with external counsel and other external advisors and service providers as necessary to provide supportive and specialty legal services, and review and track costs and expenses against budgets.
Work constructively with other internal divisions necessary for transaction evaluation and consummation, including Tax, Corporate Finance, Compliance, Employee Equity, Investor Relations and Portfolio Management teams.
EducationJ.D. degree from a top-tier, accredited American Bar Association law school and current license to practice law in one or more U.S. jurisdictions with 5 or more years of experience in a top-tier law firm.QualificationsIn-house legal or secondment experience preferred.
Excellent legal drafting skills and the ability to understand complex legal issues and recommend and implement strategies, decisions and solutions.
Superior judgment and ethical practices.
Excellent project management skills and evidenced ability to take initiative in area(s) of focus in order to develop and execute a project plan from conception through implementation and evaluation.
Demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities, across global geographies and time zones, in a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication to establish and build internal and external relationships, manage vendors and service providers and effectively interact with executives, senior-level management groups, clients and other team members.
Ability to effectively manage outside counsel, provide clear direction, evaluate services and communicate feedback as needed to achieve optimal results.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively to create and make presentations to team members, executive and senior managers and others, and to develop policies, procedures, memos and other documents used for communicating, training or implementing planned projects and initiatives.
Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database management programs, internet-based applications and various systems and applications in order to complete required reports and produce, organize and store necessary work documents, policies and other materials.
