Holy Names University in Oakland, CA is seeking a Director of Annual Giving.
The Director of Annual Giving will be responsible for the planning and implementation of a dynamic year-round annual giving program, whose purpose is to build a long-term base of support for HNU. The director collaborates with all members of the Advancement team to create and increase fundraising goals and results that aim to build and engage HNU constituencies based upon industry best practices and in concert with the HNU culture.
The director shall serve as a key member of the Vice President for University Advancement's management team and shall develop and implement his/her program using initiative, enthusiasm, and sound judgement in the implementation of HNU's annual giving efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: Design and manage a dynamic, multidimensional annual giving program that utilizes a variety of mediums to communicate with and solicit current and potential donors. Coordinate, manage, and assess all annual giving fundraising, special campaigns, and reunion giving. Perform data analysis related to all aspects of the annual giving program and use that data to evaluate programs and provide insight for ongoing solicitations. In cooperation with the Vice President for Advancement, set goals for annual giving for annual, three, and five-year increments. In a collegial fashion, work closely with the director of leadership gifts and the Vice President of Advancement to coordinate strategy related to the solicitation of leadership gift prospects. Develop and monitor budgets for cost centers reporting to this position. Work closely with the director of advancement services and prospect research on the recording and monitoring of gift processing and the maintenance of accurate alumni records in the database. Support the overall goals of Advancement by providing assistance to events and activities of others in the department as the needs arise. Maintain contact with professional peers at other institutions to exchange trends and strategies in annual giving fundraising efforts. Serve as a member of the vice president for university advancement's leadership team. Exhibit teamwork, a positive 'can do' attitude, and self-confidence.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree and three to five years of experience in an educational advancement setting (or equivalent) are required. Annual Giving experience is required. Proficiency in the use of database systems and business software is essential. Familiarity with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge (or the equivalent) is required. Strong project management, leadership, organizational planning skills with the ability to set priorities and balance concurrent tasks; excellent communications skills; analytical and creative planning skills; a proven problem-solver. The ability to coordinate, manage, and execute all direct-response fundraising efforts for annual giving, special appeals, and reunion giving. The ability to create and manage a multidimensional appeal schedule that utilizes a variety of mediums (e.g. electronic solicitation, direct mail appeals, telemarketing and face-to-face solicitations) to communicate with potential and current donors. The ability to perform data analysis related to all aspects of the annual giving program and to use data to evaluate current annual programs and provide insight for ongoing solicitations. The ability to enhance the annual giving programs use of analytics to improve segmentation and messaging and to create a personal and positive experience for donors. The ability to recruit, motivate, and direct alumni volunteers. A proven team player, with a sense of humor. The ability to work independently and is self-initiated. Flexible and available for evening, weekend or early morning events and meetings. A strong belief and respect for the mission of HNU essential. The ability to navigate the HNU campus, drive and/or fly to events as necessary.
