Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor of Interior Design
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Interior Design is seeking a full-time (9 month), tenured/tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor or associate professor rank with demonstrated ability to teach design studios as well as lecture/seminar courses in one or more areas of specialization. For Example:
Â Â Â -Studio specialization/ practice (commercial/contract/workplace design, globalization and multi-cultural design, residential, experimental interior design, institutional design for education/government, furniture design, or other areas). Â Â Â -Computer visualization and virtual reality, design communication (hand and digital drafting, rendering, and sketching; rapid visualization; graphic representation; verbal; written). Â Â Â -Building Code (International Building code, Fire code, and ADA). Â Â Â -Interior materials and technology. Â Â Â -Interior design history. Â Â Â -Color Theory. Â Â Â -Other areas of expertise.
The position offers opportunities to work with undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate design lectures, studios, and seminar courses; maintaining an active record of creative research and scholarship in interior design related areas; assisting in maintain CIDA accreditation; advising undergraduate students; mentoring and teaching graduate students, and participating in service activities within the department, college, and university.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Â Â Â -Terminal Degree in Interior Design/Interior Architecture or Design Related (Ph.D., M.F.A., M. Arch., or equivalent*).
-At least one degree in Interior Design/Interior Architecture.
-For consideration for the appointment of tenure at the Associate Professor rank, an applicant must have a minimum of six years of experience and evidence of level of scholarship, teaching, service, and excellence, commensurate with ISU and its peer institutions.
*Foreign equivalents to U.S. degrees are acceptable.
Â Â Â -Demonstrated evidence of national and/or international scholarship in specialized aspect(s) of interior design. Â Â Â -College level teaching experience. Â Â Â -Professional practice experience in interior design or related discipline(s). Â Â Â -Interdisciplinary instruction and/or research. Â Â Â -Record of seeking and securing grant funds. Â Â Â -Innovative pedagogy, including use of emerging technology to enhance learning. Â Â Â -LEED certification, WELL certification, or other relevant certification(s). Â Â Â -Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff, and/or community.
