At Stony Brook Medicine the Director Clinical Information Systems is a full time position leading all clinical system solutions. The Director will develop and manage clinical information system projects, production support of the clinical systems along with implementations of the Cerner Electronic Medical Record and associated Clinical systems. The director will collaborate with clinical and business leaders to ensure that their operational metrics and workflows are effective and that goals surrounding those metrics are being met. The work is accomplished in a team environment and requires excellent management and communication skills with a high level of professionalism
Duties of a Director Clinical Information Systems may include the following but are not limited to:
Acts as a service provider leading a department of clinical assist directors, managers, team leads and clinical analysts. Provides management/oversight for direct reports and subordinate staff including staffing, development and all other HR matters. Ensures supply of resources meets work demand and all teams are trained and compliant with standards and best practices.
Maintains core portfolio of clinical computer software and support.
Partners with clinical departments in their requirements analysis, planning, selection, design, implementation and support of core systems in support of the organizations strategic goals. Providing leadership and direction to clinical project sponsors and project team members through the entire clinical system lifecycle.
Directs the design of the computerized clinical information systems, assuming that system is consistent with current operations or, analyzes current systems and makes recommendation for changes as are appropriate.
Oversees upgrades/enhancements, consulting resources and general operations as related to clinical information systems.
Oversee the development of system requirements, system procurement, creation of functional specifications, implementation and post implementation monitoring and enhancements including visiting clinical sites, observing workflows and proposing redesign opportunities.
Coordinates clinical information systems activities with other directors to ensure user needs are met with no interruption to end users departments and core processes. Collaborates on SBMIT strategic and operational initiatives as part of the SBMIT team
Teaches, advocates, and mentors managers and staff on how to apply clinical information systems standards, tools, and methodologies while delivering high quality, business-focused customer service.
Chairs committees as is necessary or attends committee meetings as is necessary to assure effective communication.
Participates in management of the IT Budget. Monitors financial indicators and performance metrics and includes such market data in business planning activities.
Assures that State Department of Health/ TJC standards and/or organizational policy and procedure are considered in the design of systems. Assesses need for revision or development of organizational policy and procedure as the system is developed.
Partners with clinical and operational leadership to support operations and growth plan of the organization.
Solves highly complex problems and develops solutions to tasks or projects which may be unique.
Operates under deadlines and extreme workloads.
Eight or more years of Healthcare managerial experience in Information Technology or applicable area of role.
Experience with managing application teams, build and configuration
A successful history of implementing the electronic health record, clinical documentation, and computerized physician order entry.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and change management skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated development and implementation of structured, practical, fact - based approach to product and capability development, value formulation and user experience directed business planning
Highly self - motivated and directed with the ability to juggle different tasks, effectively balance priorities, and be accepting
Comfortable in a fast paced environment, and be able to meet high-expectations under deadlines
Experience with project management methodologies
