Nossaman has an immediate opening in its San Francisco office for an experienced Practice Support Project Specialist. The Project Specialist provides consulting and support in the area of e-discovery and legal technology for the firm. Working closely with the Practice Support Director, as well as various e-discovery vendors, the Project Specialist will manage the electronic discovery needs of multiple concurrent projects, including identification, preservation, collection, processing, analysis, review, and production of Electronically Stored Information (ESI). In addition to litigation matters, the Project Specialist will also assess technology needs and workflow for transactional matters involving the due diligence and deal closing process.
The Project Specialist role consists of a mix of project management and operational responsibilities, including:
Communicating with case teams and department management on deadlines, ESI management issues, budget status, production planning, and overall project status
Providing recommendations to case teams for software and technology appropriate to each specific case
Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of all aspects of e-discovery projects, from high-level case details, to documenting details of each volume of ESI that is received, processed, loaded, and produced
Preparing budgets and projects plans
Processing, loading, and quality checking ESI in document review databases
Assisting and educating case teams on the management of document reviews, including database organization, searching, batching, and review
Recommending workflows that utilize modern analytics and Technology Assisted Review (TAR) when appropriate, including predictive coding, continuous active learning, e-mail threading, near-duplicate analysis, categorization, and concept clustering
Consulting with case teams regarding best practices for electronic discovery, and implementing those best practices, including:
Employing standard workflows for all aspects of the e-discovery process and customizing those workflows as necessary given the unique requirements of each case
Advising on current practices in light of case law and rulemaking and how to apply those practices to each case
Providing support and recommendations to case teams related to Rule 26(f) conferences and other “meet and confers” that take place with co- and opposing counsel.
Participating in “data mapping” exercises with attorneys and clients to identify potentially relevant data
Balancing internally supported e-discovery work with available resources, and recommending projects that should be outsourced to vendors when appropriate
Assisting at trial, including preparing demonstrative exhibits and presenting in court
Working with department management to create standards and procedures related to all aspects of the e-discovery process, including tracking, processing, review, and production, as well as identifying and implementing process, reporting, and documentation enhancements to improve service quality and customer satisfaction
Completing special projects when needed
Experience & Qualifications
At least three (3) years of relevant experience with supporting e-discovery projects
Bachelor's degree required
High degree of familiarity with the EDRM
Extensive experience with various legal technology software is desired, including Relativity, eCapture, Nuix, Textpad, and Trial Director
Thorough knowledge of the e-discovery process, including evolving standards created through case law, rules, and industry trends, and of e-discovery/litigation support services and technologies
Able to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with a high degree of professionalism and client service orientation
Skilled at meeting strict deadlines under significant time constraints
Superior communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
A commitment to deliver the highest quality service to internal and external customers
On-site during normal working hours and available off-hours when necessary; a flexible schedule is required
Ability to engage in off-site travel as required to meet job demands and firm needs
Ability to monitor and respond to email and phone calls after hours and weekends during active projects
