Manage multiple Park Management Units. Involves: Oversee and review the care of athletic fields, playgrounds, public grounds, turf medians, open space and trails. Direct, monitor and implement weed control and turf and tree care management programs. Direct, operate and evaluate the department's computerized central irrigation and work order system. Assist in the development and administration of departmental operating budget. Approve and monitor expenditures. Develop and administer division policies and procedures. Plan, coordinate, schedule and administer complex services and project management. Ensure efficient, quality park operations. Ensure safe and clean park areas.
Assist in park construction and rehabilitation projects. Involves: Assist in the short and long range planning of diversified park and recreation development projects for future parks and recreational grounds and facilities for a comprehensive delivery system. Collaborate with recreation services management, other city departments and other parties. Provide feedback on proposed plans and specifications for turf and landscaping construction drawings. Develop plans for routine renovation of landscape including turf and irrigation. Meet with City Project Managers, contractors and consultants to discuss scope of work, inspect park projects and ensure compliance with plans, park standards and codes. Implement water conservation standards and practices.
Provide technical support and information on operational parks, athletic fields and open spaces. Involves: Respond and resolve community issues, concerns and questions including requests for information on parks and recreational facilities. Prepare and monitor work orders for completion. Prepare budgets to project accurate costs of installation and maintenance of turf, trails and landscaping. Participate in the negotiation and administration of park maintenance contracts and other agreements. Attend public meetings. Closely coordinate with Athletic Maintenance staff and assist as necessary.
Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes
Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Agronomy, Forestry Management, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Business or Public Administration, and six (6) years land use including turf management and athletic field maintenance, landscape design and maintenance, or grounds and facilities maintenance experience and four (4) years of supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. Texas Pesticide Applicators License from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) required within six (6) months of appointment.
