ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY: Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on a scenic waterfront site in Vallejo, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1100 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. The campus currently offers undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Marine Transportation, Global and Maritime Studies, and Business Administration. A master's degree in Transportation and Engineering Management is offered as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.
Position Summary: Cal Maritime's Web and Social Media Specialist is responsible for design, development, and content of public facing websites and applications, social media accounts, and e-communications to the campus community, industry, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Maintaining and updating the University's website including content, graphics, photos, and videos.
Confirming all content, graphics, photos, videos, etc. align with the branding, mission, and values of Cal Maritime.
Coordinating with staff, administrators, and key faculty to maintain and update content as needed.
Checking hyperlinks regularly to ensure validity and accessibility.
Monitor and review use of School-related domain names to confirm appropriateness of their existence, use, and content.
Creating and maintaining the University's presence on various social media platforms.
Verifying all web and social media content is consistent with the design and style of approved graphics standards.
Monitoring responses to and effectiveness of Cal Maritime social media content.
Attending programs/events as needed to post appropriate content to web and social media.
Using social media to promote university advancement, student achievement, and news.
Interacting with students and alumni through social media to build brand ambassadors and relationships.
Monitoring and interacting with other campus organizations' social media presences.
Tracking analytics and noting performance indicators, reporting areas that are of interest to the Cal Maritime community.
Keeping up-to-date with new, rapidly-changing technologies and recommending possible improvements to the University's web and social media presences.
Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of the University's SEO, social media marketing, and strategic enrollment management efforts.
Managing access and authorization to Cal Maritime's content management system and social media accounts.
Development and distribution of regular e-newsletters to campus communities and alumni.
Creation of content (writing/graphic design) for distribution via electronic and print media.
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in business information systems, computer programming, computer science, marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field required.
Two to three years directly related professional experience in organizational communications, media, marketing, public relations, web development, web design, or a related field.
Attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills.
Highly creative, versatile, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
Ability to communicate complex subjects with simple, direct writing that inspires audiences to take action.
Proficient in use of interactive marketing techniques, such as video sharing, social media networks, email marketing, and blogs.
Experience with quality and accessibility checking tools such as Compliance Sheriff, Siteimprove, etc.
Experience working in higher education.
Experience utilizing social media on behalf of an organization, gathering content for multimedia use, and experience with project management and event coordination.
Proficient in PHP, Perl, OOF, Juicer social media integration tool, Subversion, GitHub.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Involves mainly sitting; walking and standing is minimal; involves lifting lightweight objects limited to 15 pounds.
BACKGROUND CHECK: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
