Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Business Services / Chief Business Improvement Officer, leads and supports both large-scale and modest-sized projects and programs that directly support the goals of George Mason University (GMU) and the UBC Office. Projects are expected, but not be limited to, include from business and strategic planning, business process redesign and implementation, policy redesign, implementing new initiatives, and/or conducting analysis on business functions at the university.
Directs all aspects of projects. Manages daily activities of other UBC staff and overall project efforts with minimal supervision from leadership. Leads project work; manages UBC Managers, senior associates, and associates in projects. Is responsible for overall high-quality performance in assigned UBC projects. Drives the development of project work plans and goals.
Serves as part of the UBC Leadership Team. Represents UBC within the GMU community and beyond. Interfaces with GMU schools and units on UBC initiatives. Expected to build and maintain strong relationships among schools and units. Drives meaningful new work for the practice, either through new sourcing client engagements or securing add-on work from existing projects.
Maintains a fundamental level of gravitas. Must be facile at applying innovative thinking and/or executive insight to all efforts, with the expectation of developing creative and novel solutions as needed. Leads development (mostly direct, also through supervision) of thoughtful, detail-oriented and high-quality qualitative and quantitative analyses to include in written documents, flow charts and/or spreadsheets. Reviews, edits, and prepares documents for clients and UBC working groups, project meetings, and leadership meetings. Consistently ensures excellent, high-quality outcomes for all projects. Expected to consistently develop insightful, robust, and information-driven solutions to complex problems.
Leads UBC working groups and teams. Strategically drives UBC project working groups, which typically includes staff and faculty and staff from schools and business units. Provides thorough written and verbal updates on projects to the AVP and SVP, project Executive Committees, project sponsors, as well as other leaders and stakeholders across campus as necessary. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MBA or other graduate degree; ten to fifteen years of consulting, business process improvement, business development, project management or related business experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills are necessary. Complex project management experience required, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary or multifunction teams.
Ability and experience in managing politically-sensitive efforts is required. Advanced problem solving and analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative) are essential. Executive presence required. Experience presenting to leadership is essential.
Higher education, healthcare, or not-for-profit experience is preferred. The ability to manage multiple engagements and to grow and nurture client / customer relationships.
