Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, the Associate Director serves as a key ambassador and representative of Harvard Law School within the alumni community, responsible for enhancing programs and building upon the alumni engagement strategy to support HLS and its mission. The Associate Director provides direction and supervision for the Harvard Law School Association (HLSA) which consists of an expanding network of 40+ geographic alumni clubs (U.S. and International) and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs); is responsible for guiding alumni volunteer leaders during the development and launch of new Clubs and SIGs, implementing revitalization and organizational strategies, and supporting the creation of HLSA driven programming to engage a variety of alumni audiences.
The Associate Director plans and executes regular alumni events and activities developed by the Alumni Relations Office. Serves as a liaison to the HLSA Executive Committee and HLSA President, coordinating monthly conference calls and bi-annual in person meetings. Oversees HLSA communications, including managing the use of School sponsored HLSA platform (AlumniMagnet) and the official Harvard Law School Alumni LinkedIn and Facebook groups. Develops new office driven engagement opportunities that foster and strengthen alumni connections across HLS, including the creation of an annual alumni volunteer leadership conference. Manages logistics for Harvard Law School's HLeX Open Lecture Series, delivering monthly live (online) faculty presentations to a global alumni audience. Organizes and manages all logistics for alumni traditions at Harvard Law School, such as the U.S. Supreme Court Bar Swearing-in Ceremony and Harvard/Yale football alumni tailgate. Develops metrics and reports that capture alumni engagement statistics.
The Associate director will also serve as the Alumni Relations representative for the HLS mentorship platform, Amicus. Will coordinate with the Director of Alumni Relations to recruit alumni mentors to participate in Amicus and develop new opportunities for alumni engagement via Amicus.
This role has supervisory responsibility for two direct reports, an Assistant Director and the HLSA Clubs & SIGs Coordinator, including hiring, training, goal setting, and performance management. Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as needed, to enhance alumni engagement and attend alumni programs and events. Must also be willing to work outside of regular business hours to staff alumni events on campus.

Bachelor degree required. Minimum seven years experience in alumni relations and volunteer management, or other related experience, preferably at an institution of higher education.
Outstanding project management, analytical, technical and organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to adhere to deadlines while balancing multiple priorities. Demonstrated leadership ability to develop and organize strategic plans, implement programs, identify, recruit and motivate volunteers, and interact successfully with faculty, as well as HLS colleagues. Significant experience in developing strategies for implementing social media programs, as well as the ability to use technology to further alumni relations programming and communication outreach. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer skills and knowledge of alumni databases. Strong judgment, flexibility, customer-service orientation and positive team attitude. Staff supervisory experience. Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups internal and external to HLS. Knowledge of university environment, trends, and resources of higher education. Experience using AlumniMagnet, Certain (Event Management Platform), Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and Ellucian Advance applications. Ability to travel and work extended hours to serve as the HLS representative at alumni events/programs.
