We are seeking a Research Program Coordinator to manage the implementation of studies in sub-Saharan Africa and analytical studies focused on stigma metrics. Studies are focused on understanding risks for HIV and other health outcome among men who have sex with men, sex workers, and transgender women, as well as interventions to improve uptake of HIV services. This position will require collaboration with investigators at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and other institutions.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The position will be based in Baltimore and includes a focus on program management related to the effective and on-time implementation of research projects on HlV among key populations including men who have sex with men and female sex workers in sub-Saharan Africa.
Develop project management plans and closely monitor adherence to these plans by closely coordinating multiple faculty members from Johns Hopkins, other academic institutions as well as implementing partners and community-based organizations.
Provide high quality management and coordination of complex projects through superb organization, accuracy, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, sensitivities to the needs of the sponsors, host institution and partner organizations, and excellent ability to manage time and prioritize activities.
Collaboratively develop research plans and study instruments for submission to the Johns Hopkins University IRB office and local country offices. Prepare and submit IRB documentation including proposals, progress reports and amendments. Monitor IRB applications and manage IRB-related study communication. As part of the study team, develop operations manuals.
Manage the scientific and administrative design and implementation of projects. Set meeting agendas, manage calls, and maintain meeting minutes.
Develop project workplans and timelines with key milestones, proposals and standard operating procedures. Ensure milestones are met and that deliverables are received on time.
Draft and prepare annual and quarterly program reports and work plans. Serve as a liaison with JHSPH and external funders and partners.
Proactively liaise, correspond, and build relationships with project team, contractors and other related personnel & partners.
Develop data collection, evaluation and other tools in support of projects.
Train for and/or conduct data collection.
Identify and implement improvements to project efficiency (better and faster ways to accomplish tasks, as well as opportunities for reducing costs).
Monitor incoming data for quality.
Clean and analyze data, interpret findings.
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, training, monitoring and mentoring /supervision of project interns and students.
Collaborate with financial staff in the preparation and tracking of activity budgets and subcontracts. Develop study budgets with the principal investigator and monitor budget expenditures.
Writereports, fact sheets, abstracts, scientific papers (e.g., contribute text, conduct literature review, format references, prepare paper for submission and submit).
Prepare other dissemination products as needed.
Prepareand deliver presentations.
Support other work of the Key Populations Program:
Participate in calls with collaborators.
Assist with other projects as requested.
Participate in meetings with guests & stakeholders.
This position will include management and support for grant development and submissions in response to requests for proposal from federal and international funding mechanisms. This will include coordination and management of grant documents including budgetary and financial, non-scientific, partner and collaborator, and scientific documents.
Contribute to conference abstracts and peer-reviewed manuscripts through quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis and writing.
Must have the ability and enthusiasm to travel domestically and internationally and be able to work in groups as well as independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will be sensitive to diverse populations and cultures, will exercise independent judgement, initiative and innovation in dealing with routine, novel and more complex matters, consulting with the PI as needed and must be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently; and meet deadlines with attention to quality.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, international health, or related discipline and some related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Master’s degree in public health or related discipline and experience working in sub-Saharan Africa.
French language skill is preferred.
