Assistant Director of Social Justice Training and Education
The Office of Multicultural Affairs strives to foster a culturally pluralistic living and learning environment in which all differences and similarities are recognized, understood, and appreciated. The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) also strives to foster global citizenship and facilitate the self-actualizing growth and development of all students. In alignment with the mission of St. John's University, and through campus and community partnerships, we will provide education, identity and cultural-based programming, social justice trainings, inclusive services, resources, and a safe space to identify, address, and meet the needs of our students.
Reporting to Executive Director for Multicultural Affairs, and under the mission of OMA, the Assistant Director for Social Justice Trainings and Education will oversee social justice education, training initiatives, liaise with campus colleagues, and assist with multicultural programs and initiatives. Further, the Assistant Director will collaborate with team members and campus partners to address student needs ensuring that programs and services are intentional, collaborative, inclusive, and effective in order to enhance the student experience and campus climate. The Assistant Director will execute this role by providing resources, services, and support aimed at addressing student persistence, retention, and connectedness, regardless of identity.
Assists the Executive Director with daily operations and functions of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Inclusivity Resource Center, including identifying and addressing gaps.
Assist in the strategic planning, program development, and implementation of assessment measures geared toward program effectiveness and student success.
Works collaboratively with the Executive Director and campus departments to facilitate social and global justice educational workshops.
Oversees Diversity Peer Education (DPE) Program including: curriculum development, facilitator training and development, training schedule management, recruitment and hiring of leaders, and program effectiveness.
Chair the Annual OMA Social Justice Student Leadership Conference in collaboration with key campus partners.
Co-Chair the annual OMA Staff Kick-Off, focused on team-building, social justice, and leadership development.
Liaisons and builds relationships between OMA staff and the Academic Center for Equity and Inclusion (ACEI) and Human Resources to co-develop and offer trainings and programs that serve the entire university community.
Uphold university policies and procedures pertaining to calendar clearance, contracts, budgets, facilities maintenance, marketing, and public safety into all event relevant programs.
Manage program budgets, database profiles, reports, and files for select office-related programs and participants.
Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned graduate assistant(s), when applicable.
Support DEi initiatives and trainings when necessary, in addition to performing other duties as needed.
Master's degree required and a minimum of two years progressive administrative experience in social justice training, education, and program development; knowledge of student development theory, multicultural identity development theory, and student leadership development; strong understanding and appreciation of diverse social identity groups; strong understanding of cultural competency and current global social justice issues; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Available to work nights and weekends, as needed.
Higher education experience, strong curriculum writing, project management, student supervision, excellent inter- and intracultural communication skills, departmental liaison work, and strong workshop facilitation and presentation skills
