This is a time-limited position that is guaranteed employment through the end of December 2020, and after that is contingent on obtaining additional funding.
The Prosecutors and Politics Program is a research initiative at UNC Law School. The Project aims to increase our understanding of the relationship between prosecutors and politics through empirical study and careful analysis. Students work closely with faculty to collect data, collaborate with other organizations, and publicly share information that increases academic and public knowledge about elected prosecutors and broader criminal justice issues.
Job Description & Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will report directly to the Project's Faculty Director, and is expected to take on significant responsibilities, namely:
Managing existing research and writing projects by: - Managing the workflow of all outstanding research projects; - Conducting research, including limited data collection; - Coordinating and working with research collaborators and community partners; and - Writing and editing reports, newsletters, press releases, and social media entries describing our research;
Assist in strategic planning and the development of new research and writing projects by: - Working with faculty director on strategic planning for the Project; - Developing funding proposals; and - Providing clerical assistance in IRB process; - Assisting in the day-to-day management of the Project, including: - Supervising and training student research associates; - Overseeing day-to-day finances of the organization; and - Managing and developing outside relationships.
Performing miscellaneous administrative tasks, including: - Maintaining and updating research databases; - Drafting correspondence; - Organizing logistics for events and travel; and - Coordinating with finance, HR, and other law school and University departments.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
We seek to hire someone with the experience and the ability to manage projects and relationships independently. Because this is a new initiative and because we expect to grow over the next few years, we are looking for someone who is a problem solver, who has good independent judgment, and who is comfortable with change.
- Supervisory or lead-worker experience; - Experience with and an interest in project management; - Interest in and experience with the criminal justice system; - Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to maintain and develop professional relationships; - Excellent judgment and the ability to multitask; - Strong written communications skills; and - Experience and facility with Microsoft Office programs.
Graduate degree preferred, such as an M.A., J.D., or Ph.D., but not required.
At least three years of professional experience preferred.
