Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Editorial/Media Specialist I – Design for Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). As part of ORED, the Editorial Media Specialist I – Design is responsible for researching, writing, editing, organizing and updating content for Research.rutgers.edu and other assigned websites and digital communication platforms. As ORED is amid a major website redevelopment project set for completion in the summer of 2020, the candidate must assist with planning, development, and organization of content leading up to and post-relaunch. This role works directly in the content management system and uses other tools to create, update, and maintain webpages and produce content.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Proactively recommend new content for Research.rutgers.edu and identifies the best formats to deliver that content (i.e. video, animation, web banners, etc.) to achieve desired goals.
Responsible for researching, writing and editing original or submitted web content, images, or other content types, as well as implementing supporting processes and procedures for ORED staff including content scheduling.
The successful candidate also tests webpages for desired information architecture and organization.
Works closely with the web development team and contributes to web/digital communication strategies and discussions.
Coordinates and leads web project teams.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communication, marketing, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge, skill, and understanding of writing, editing, proofreading, publishing, organizational coordination, and/or facilitation.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communications or marketing that demonstrates knowledge, skill, and understanding of website content development, management, and publishing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands.
Experience using website content management systems and Google Analytics.
Superior writing and editing skills with ability to explain and distill complex research for a general audience.
Demonstrated knowledge of developing and maintaining website content.
Demonstrated success as a creative storyteller with a natural curiosity for information and news and the ability to craft content that conveys value for audiences and copy that is relatable and concise in a range of voices and styles.
Exhibits strong attention to detail and organization along with strong planning and problem-solving skills.
Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Works effectively under pressure of deadlines while managing multiple priorities with supervisor's support.
Must be able to plan, organize, and implement both short-term and long-term website updates and development working autonomously and as part of a group with an understanding of best practices in information architecture, web standards, and user experience for successful user engagement.
Knowledge of website accessibility requirements.
Must be committed to providing accurate information and is persistent in researching content.
Must be a creative thinker who has demonstrated expertise recommending and advocating for new ideas and demonstrates ownership in their ideas to see them through implementation.
Must be committed to providing accurate information and high-quality work.
Knowledge of basic HTML, photo editing software, and email marketing tools a plus.
Advanced knowledge of writing for the web and content management systems.
Advanced knowledge of website coordination, which is vital to maintaining a high-quality website that ensures a best-in-class user experience and that reflects and bolsters the university's reputation.
3 years of relevant experience in communications or marketing that demonstrates knowledge, skill, and understanding of website content development, management, and publishing.
Experience in Drupal content management system to develop and publish web content.
Experience at an institution of higher education is preferred, but not required.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and ability to create compelling graphic elements is highly desirable.
Must be comfortable working in PC environment and able to use Microsoft Office, Office 365 Groups, and the Drupal content management system.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Some evening and weekend work required.
Occasional intercampus travel required.
