This is a two (2) year contract appointment that may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the department.
Interior Design Specialist who assists Facilities Project Managers 3, 4 and 5 on large projects. With regular guidance, manages small and capital design and construction projects. Oversees and ensures that all training and close-out documents meet the contract requirements and are properly turned over to the appropriate entity. Manages project reviews for conformance to regulatory requirements and organization policies. Takes initiative to make recommendations to modify construction and design contracts to incorporate needs of the project close-out and training.
Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager of Planning and Construction, the incumbent will provide high level independent project management of multiple simple and complex HDH construction and renovation projects including, but not limited to Furniture Fixtures Equipment (FFE), interior design, flooring, and space planning, and ensuring that projects are delivered as specified, within budget and within defined timelines. Analyzes and facilitates HDH renovation projects performed annually through the entire project life cycle including budget development, implementation, project completion and facility opening.
Projects include housing, dining, retail, office, and other tenant improvement projects. Independently manages HDH flooring replacement program. Fosters an ongoing positive interaction with both the HDH management team and various internal and external entities to ensure that customers' needs and expectations are met and exceeded.
Overtime, alternate shift or call back time may be assigned as operationally necessary.
Knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes.
Demonstrated skills to develop project scope and drawings.
Ability to research special studies/projects, compile complex data and reports and/or draft formal documentation.
Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills.
Proven ability to manage contractors and maintain compliance to the agreed-upon scope of work and budget. Strong analytical skills. Detail oriented to accurately proof contracts and other documents.
Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple complex renovation, construction and interior design projects. Significant knowledge of project cost control and management.
Strong mathematical, accounting, and analytical skills to perform studies, prepare reports, and compile data into accurate, concise, and complex reporting mechanisms.
Excellent organizational skills in order to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work in an environment of heavy pressures and changing priorities.
Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, general maintenance, construction and repair procedures.
Demonstrated familiarity with national, state and/or university trade codes and requirements and ability to understand and apply relevant building, health safety and fire codes.

Must have a valid, unrestricted CA driver's license. DMV check required prior to hire.
