GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provide planning, development, and delivery of career services to all students and alumni through individual and group coaching, assessments, classroom presentations, events, and other channels both in-person and virtually. Supervise, train, and evaluate student worker Peer Advisors. Collaborate with academic departments across venues to provide existing and new programming.
Provides individual/group internship, career coaching and assists students in clarifying academic and career goals, selecting a major, career exploration, internship searches, and graduate school options.
Helps students develop and refine resumes and cover letters, teaches and coaches students on interviewing and internship and job-search skills including strategies for career discovery/job-search.
Manage student worker Peer Advisers ensuring they provide appropriate services to students on behalf of the career center.
Develop training and evaluation materials for student workers.
Oversee student worker schedules and time cards.
Collaborate with academic departments across venues to develop career-related programming in the classroom; provide classroom presentations on career related topics; develop and implement events tailored for specific majors or populations as requested by departments/divisions.
Create career related content for print and digital materials. Research current trends, best practices, and emerging recruiting practices to ensure that resource information is current and accurate.
Manage logistics, planning, registration, and follow up evaluation for on-campus career events such as workshops, boot camps, seminars, job fairs, networking events, mock interviews, and special topic seminars. Enhance current programs and develop new ones as needed.
Represent Strommen Career & Internship Services at campus events such as Admissions events, summer advising days, etc., as needed.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Administers and interprets career inventories (e.g. MBTI, STRONG, StrengthsFinder) for traditional age students and adult learners individually and in courses.
Collaborates with other Strommen Center Staff and the MN Private College career centers to plan the Job and Internship Fair, career and internship events
All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).
Bachelors' Degree required.
At least one year of experience providing career counseling, supervision (student supervision will be considered), vocational counseling or performing related work (graduate school experience will be considered) required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and group presentation skills required.
Individual and group counseling skills required.
Strong active listening and empathy skills required.
Master's degree in Career Counseling or a related field preferred.
Certification or training in Myers Briggs Type Indication and Strong preferred.
Training in Strengths Finder preferred.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
Ability to be attentive to details, be accurate, be precise.
Ability to lead/teach; work in a team environment; and work independently with little supervision.
Ability to reason/analyze; maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience, understanding.
Ability to show initiative; organize workflow; manage multiple projects; and handle frequent interruptions.
