ZEI is currently looking for an highly-experienced, accomplished, and self-motivated Principal Fusion Plasma Research Scientist to assist leadership of ZEI’s research efforts on their scientific fusion breakeven project. Working with the ZEI CSO and CTO, this position will supervise scientific, engineering, and technical teams, including design, assembly, fielding, commissioning, and maintenance of the next-generation SFS Z-pinch and its instrumentation. This position will also supervise experimental operations, data analysis & reduction of both experimental and computational data, and publication & presentation of results. The Principal Scientist will work with senior ZEI personnel to supervise and direct ZEI scientific, engineering, and technical staff, as well as planning of future ZEI projects. The ideal candidate is an organized, inventive problem solver, with recognized and proven leadership and project management abilities. The candidate must be experienced with working through technical challenges while employing sound, pragmatic solutions, with demonstrated successful leadership of team efforts. Responsibilities and Duties:
With ZEI CSO and CTO, manage major research project
Supervise scientific and technical staff
With ZEI CTO, co-lead ZEI technology transfer and outreach efforts
With ZEI CSO and CTO, actively participate in planning for future ZEI projects
Reports to the CTO
Qualifications and Skills:
15+ years post-PhD experience in fusion plasma physics research
Demonstrated leadership abilities
Extensive experience in design, procurement, assembly, fielding, operations, and analysis of fusion plasma physics experiments
Detailed knowledge of plasma diagnostics and instrumentation including:
