We are currently recruiting one position for this residency program. The purpose of the PGY-2 ID Residency is to train PGY-1 trained pharmacists to be competent practitioners of Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy. It is designed to help them develop the clinical skills and knowledge base to function independently as an Infectious Diseases clinician in a variety of areas (General Infectious Diseases, HIV, Hepatology, Antibiotic Stewardship). In addition, the experiences are designed to give them the administrative and project management skills needed in these types of positions. Rotations include ID Consult Service, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Inpatient HIV, Microbiology and Outpatient HIV and Hepatology.
The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is a comprehensive health care network that services the veterans of South Texas. It is composed of two divisions and an extensive network of clinics. The main hospital, Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, has over 200 beds, including three intensive care units, an inpatient spinal cord injury unit, an inpatient long-term rehabilitation unit, three inpatient psychiatry units, and a bone marrow transplant unit, in addition to numerous primary care and specialty outpatient clinics. Clinical Pharmacy is an integral part of the veteran’s care. We have over 70 clinical pharmacy specialists covering areas such as Internal Medicine, Primary Care, Geriatrics, Hematology and Oncology, Mental Health, Infectious Diseases, Cardiology, Critical Care, Antimicrobial Stewardship, HIV, Hepatology, Renal, Anticoagulation, Bone Marrow Transplant Neurology and Spinal Cord Injury. We have 8 pharmacy residency programs to include PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 programs in Ambulatory Care, Geriatrics, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Pain & Palliative Care and Psychiatry.
