Job Title: Director of Marketing and Sales
Area of Focus: The Director of Marketing is a senior staff member who oversees all external communications for the organization, manages the Charleston Symphony brand, and is responsible for driving the earned revenue of the Charleston Symphony. Responsibilities include development and implementation of subscription and single ticket campaigns, managing advertising and media sponsorships, overseeing public relations, and implementing strategies that result in customer loyalty, new acquisition, and increased public awareness. The Director of Marketing works closely with the Director of Development to create meaningful patron experiences across the symphony family.

Duties and Responsibilities: Managerial
In coordination with the Executive Director, sets performance revenue goals for the year aligned with the budget, program, and strategic plan.
Oversees brand identity and ensures that messaging is consistent and cohesive
Conducts market research and audience surveys as needed
Prepares marketing reports and analysis for committee meetings and organizational decision making
Develops marketing strategies for all symphony concert series
Subscription Campaigns (Masterworks, Pops and Chamber Music concert series)
Develops and pursues programs for subscriber retention, upgrade and acquisition and well developed, integrated loyalty program.
Creates and manages subscription renewal and acquisition campaigns encompassing direct mail, telemarketing, database segmentation, data analysis and tracking
Single Ticket Sales
Develops programs to increase single ticket sales and grow audiences for all concert series
Creates and manages ticket pricing/discounts, incentives and comps
Creates and implements advertising plan for season, including copy and supervision of artwork creation and placement of ads
Negotiates and manages in-kind media sponsorships
Digital Marketing/Website/Social Media
Develops strategy for all electronic communication campaigns for organization for each season – related to ticket sales and other activities
Oversees website content, design and updates.
Develops plan for effective use of social media, customer databases and creates content that engages a growing audience.
Creates new opportunities through new segment development (i.e. geographic expansion, Millennials targeting) and in collaboration with other organizations
Oversees Symphony information table on performance evenings
Develop strategies for enhanced media exposure through an annual public relations plan
Writes press releases, pitching stores, arranges interviews and responds to inquiries
Assist Executive Director in establishing marketing budget in order to maximize earned revenue and pursue stretch revenue goals
Diligently monitors ticket sales on a daily basis in order to recommend strategic and tactical adjustments to maximize sales. (dynamic pricing, other discounting)
Prepares monthly reporting on marketing performance for Executive Director and Board of Directors
Organizes and supervises photo shoots
Supervises production of all written communication, publications and program material and digital media to ensure consistent institutional branding
Provides marketing guidance and support to other departments as required.

Requirements: The successful candidate shall have a bachelor’s degree and at least five years- marketing experience demonstrating a track record of success; strong financial acumen to maximize performance revenue growth on a limited budget; demonstrated ability with CRM databases and data analytics; strong verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively; and ability to work effectively with designers, photographers, and the media. Experience in in the performing arts industry is not required but is a plus. Individual must be a team player and strongly committed to attaining organizational goals. Evening and weekend work required during the concert season and to support ad hoc symphony performances.
