Drew University is seeking a Senior Associate Director, Advancement Generalist in the University Advancement Department. Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations & Infrastructure and collaborating with the senior leadership and other advancement staff, the Senior Associate Director provides critical support to front-facing team in multiple areas. Enables gift officers to be in the field rather than doing “desk work”: writes proposals, gift agreements, briefings, presentations, and communications; conducts strategic and ongoing prospect research to assure a continued pipeline of donor prospects; assists in portfolio building and moves management; with information gained from the Registrar, Finance, and other University departments, handles donor stewardship, including endowment reports, personalized donor correspondence, and events. Drafts correspondence and donor visit briefing memos for gift officers, Vice President for University Advancement, and President. This position can be headquartered in the regional advancement office in New York City, or in the advancement office on the main campus of the University – with the expectation of the ability to travel fluidly between offices as need be.
WRITING & PRESENTATIONS: With guidance from the Vice President for University Advancement, the Executive Director of Individual Giving, and the Major Gift Officers, draft donor proposals, gifts agreement, acknowledgement letters. Draft briefings for the President of the University and the Vice President for Advancement. Assist in the preparation of presentations for the Board of Trustees, the Development Committee and other Committees of the Board. Draft stewardship correspondence and fund reports.
RESEARCH: Utilize various donor research tools, provide prospect research to frontline fundraisers, offering new names for engagement, enabling fundraising staff to more efficiently and effectively pursue prospective donors, and to be more informed when engaging with known prospects. Conduct special initiative funding research projects for senior leadership.
STEWARDSHIP: Assist in monitoring the timely use of donor-created endowment and restricted-expendable funds and draft appropriate fund acknowledgments and reports. Liaise with the Finance office to build endowment and expendable fund annual reports.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Operations & Infrastructure.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
5-8 years of experience in Development/Advancement or a related field
Excel in conceptualizing, writing, and coordinating written and visual materials
Experience in a fast-paced, detail-oriented office setting
Superb organization and project management skills
Track record of confidentiality and discretion
Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Must be an active listener and open-minded collaborator
Must possess a growth and entrepreneurial mindset with a nimble and flexible attitude
Working knowledge of Google’s G Suite and Microsoft Office products, including Power Point
Ideal Education and Experience
Experience working in Higher Education
Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and Banner with an ability to quickly gain proficiency in a new CRM
