The medical center is looking for a highly motivated, creative individual with strong communication skills and the ability to design for a variety of media. The designer should have an in-depth understanding of visual identity systems, and exhibit exemplary typographic and layout skills.
As part of their responsibilities, the designer will collaborate in the ongoing development of our brand identity, and facilitate the production of uniform branded material for the many groups that compose the medical center. Material will range from print-based editorial designs, promotional items, and guidance systems to digital assets for a variety of applications. Additionally, the designer will support the creation of presentational material and assist in communicating visual problem
The designer will work in the Office of Communications at Columbia University Irving Medical Center supporting the medical center's three-part mission of education, research, and patient care.
Responsibilities - collaborate and lead in the development of brand identity for consistency and market-leading brand expression - design brand assets including logos and supporting material - apply branding to a variety of media and adhering to the visual identity requirements - design print-based material, including but not limited to, editorial designs, promotional material, infographics, and guidance systems - design digital material including banners, email templates, newsletters, digital ad campaigns, kiosk displays, etc. - design of slide decks, PowerPoint templates, proposal templates for presentation - communicating design solutions to clients and stakeholders

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design / Visual Communication or related field or equivalent in education and experience plus a minimum of three years or more of related experience.
Must have 3 or more years of mid-level professional graphic design/visual experience. - in-depth understanding of visual identity systems - exemplary typographic and layout skills - strong design skills in a variety of media with a keen eye for detail - proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) - competence in presentational software (PowerPoint, Keynote, or similar) - team oriented and an ability to collaborate - ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently to adhere to critical project timelines in a fast paced environment - must have a strong design portfolio
- understanding of modern web design principles - understanding of accessibility requirements - knowledge of video production and editing (Premiere, Final Cut Pro, After Effects) - ability to design simple animations - experience working in the healthcare field
