Aubash Collections Access Fellowship for Emerging Professionals in Library Science
The St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis seeks an outstanding emerging scholar for a full-time, donor-funded Early Career Library Fellow position. This position will provide an invaluable professional development opportunity to a scholar interested in a library career. The selected fellow will work in collaboration with Mercantile Library river, rail, and manuscript curators to advance digital access to the vast holdings of this 173-year old rare book library. The selected fellow will develop practical skills in all areas of library and archival practice including collections digitization, management and planning, and public service while participating fully in the intellectual life of the library.
This person reports to the Executive Director of the St. Louis Mercantile Library.
Must have graduated from an ALA-accredited institution with a Master's degree in Library Science within the 18 months preceding the application deadline.
Knowledge of preservation and metadata standards for media and electronic records.
Outstanding research, organizational, writing, and communication skills, with attention to detail.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite software.
Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and work well as a member of a team.
Must be eligible to work in the United States and pass standard University of Missouri System screenings and background checks.
Experience in an academic or special library setting.
Experience working with and handling rare materials.
Familiarity with the descriptive standards for archival and manuscript materials such as DACs or EAD.
Knowledge of U.S. History and/or American Studies. St. Louis and Missouri history a plus.
Perform duties related to physical care, documentation, and preservation of archival and manuscript collections of the St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis including:
Accessioning and processing new acquisitions and backlog holdings.
Participation in the facilitation of scholarly access to and ensuring long-term preservation of the special collections.
Collaborating with colleagues to enhance discovery of Library holdings through online access and digitization projects.
Participating in setting digitization priorities.
Overseeing the maintenance and handling of special collections material while being digitized.
Preparing online and print finding aids, catalogs, or other resources to provide access to the collections in accordance with the standards and best practices of the profession.
Providing administrative support related to collections use, storage, and research.
Participating in Library special events and programs which include evenings and weekends.
Other duties as needed.
This is a one (1) year appointment with option for renewal for one (1) additional year. This position carries a two (2) year maximum. This appointment is full time with benefits.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to safely move material handling equipment (book carts, dollies, etc.) with loads up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb, bend and reach on step stools and ladders.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patron population.
