Extension Global Initiatives resides in the University of Minnesota Extension’s Office of the Dean. It coordinates projects and training programs using the expertise of Extension Educators in all Centers for international visitors and with our international partners. This requires seeking funding and the logistics associated with travel, developing a schedule of activities or meetings and supporting the Director and visitors during program implementation.
Among the responsibilities and tasks are: Manage and coordinate global initiatives projects and programs -- 50%-time
Plan and coordinate with the Director of Global Initiatives and partners visits, materials, activities and agendas
Plan and coordinate international visitor agendas and activities
Create reports to funders on programs and activities
Maintain, in collaboration with UM Extension Communications, the website for Global Initiatives
Manage the electronic files and project reporting systems
Perform grant writing and coordination responsibilities -- 30%-time Facilitate Extension content and network experts (Extension Educators) to:
Monitor and identify sources of funding for Global Initiative opportunities for funding projects and programs related to Global Initiatives strategy
Develop grant proposals for projects and training programs in collaboration with Extension’s Grants Management team
Assist with writing grant proposals
Research costs when developing budgets
Ensure goals and objectives of proposal requested by funding organizations are addressed
Prepare final reports with Director for the programs
Support Extension Educators involved in international programs and activities -- 15%-time
Respond to inquiries Extension Educators regarding international travel
Provide guidance on Regents Policy regarding international opportunities
Be knowledgeable on University procedures and funding for international travel
Prospect for short-term international experiences such as Farmer-to-Farmer consulting opportunities
Develop country specific pre-departure handbooks for international travel
Provide support and office coordination for the Extension Director of Global Initiatives -- 5%
Coordinate appointments on Director’s calendar
Facilitate with travel arrangements for Director or visitors as necessary
Coordinate meeting arrangements on campus
Respond to inquiries regarding Global Initiatives
Coordinate with Dean’s office administration
HS Diploma/GED and five years of related experience to include project management. Course work in a related field may substitute for up to two years of experience.
Demonstrated success writing grants.
Experience including administrative software package Microsoft Office to create agendas, reports and educational materials, etc.
Coursework in International Relations, Global Studies, Communications or related fields
International travel such as study abroad or Peace Corps Volunteer
Experience managing complex events including international and domestic travel arrangements and documents
Experience using a second language
Cross-cultural communication experience
