The University of Southern Maine (USM) seeks applicants for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Cyber Security. This position will teach a three-three course-load, advance scholarly activities, advise students, and provide services that support the students in the Cyber Security program in the Department of Technology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Potential courses taught by this position include introductory information security, penetration testing, digital forensics, cyber-law, cryptography, system security, network security, and security operations. The position will also include student mentoring cyber security internships, capstone experiences, and student portfolios. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty members advise students, serve on committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college as requested. This position will be required to teach both face-to-face and online courses.
The selected faculty member will need to pass a background check to serve as a liaison between the University and the information security community and work closely with employers to meet local workforce needs. Additional responsibilities include student academic advising, engaging in university, department and community committees and other kinds of service, and conducting research and scholarship activities. The targeted starting date for this position will begin in Fall 2020.
The Department of Technology (DOT) is located in the John Mitchell Center on University of Southern Maine’s (USM) Gorham campus and offers: a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security, a Bachelor of Science in Technology Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Technical Leadership, and a Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security. To be eligible for tenure track position, applicants must have a doctorate in Information Security, Cyber Security or related field. Applicants with a Masters degree in Information Security, Cyber Security or related field pursuit of PhD (ABD) in Information Security, Cyber Security or related field would be hired at lecture status until contractual completion of doctorate.
At least one year of additional business, industry, governmental experiences, and/or prior teaching experience, or professional certifications is required.
A minimum of three years of actual industry experience in security operations is preferred, with certifications from accredited Information Security agencies.
Industry experience in the field.
Experience with online or University teaching.
Exhibit a strong record of scholarly activity in high quality peer-reviewed scholarly journals and conferences.
