WAMU 88.5 is seeking an AudienceProducer to join its newsroom. If you’re an experienced producer with a passion for social media, we’d love to hear from you.
The Audience Producer serves as the primary editorial voice for the WAMU newsroom on social media. The position is also the driving force behind the newsroom’s daily editorial newsletter. In collaboration with newsroom leadership, the Audience Producer develops multi-platform audience engagement plans for reporters, beats, individual stories, special projects and other initiatives. The position moderates online conversations across multiple platforms and executes social media coverage during breaking news and major regional events. The Audience Producer uses analytics to inform content decisions and shares questions and themes presented by WAMU’s audience to newsroom leadership.
What you’ll do:
Edit headlines, teasers, and photographic elements of stories to maximize audience engagement on social media platforms.
Create and/or collaborate with others to create basic graphics and other creative visual elements to help make our content sing online.
Ensures social channels accurately convey WAMU content in a timely way, contributing to homepage curation when needed.
Serve as the primary writer, curator, and editor of a daily local newsletter product.
Collaborate with the Growth Editor and Managing Editor, Digital to connect social and newsletter strategy to wider organizational goals and initiatives.
Stay abreast of best practices and trends in newsletter and social media industries, continuously developing methods for integrating those insights across the newsroom.
Work collaboratively with the Growth Editor and members of WAMU’s newsroom to develop engagement plans across platforms for reporters, beats, individual stories, special projects and other initiatives.

You’re experience and attributes:
3-5 years’ experience writing or producing social media in a professional journalism environment.
Ability to write in a creative, conversational, and distinctive voice while still maintaining accuracy and adhering to editorial standards.
Strong editorial judgment, a journalistic compass and the ability to make independent editorial decisions on behalf of WAMU.
Deep understanding of established and emerging social media platforms, with knowledge of how to best leverage each tool for optimum audience growth and engagement.
An appreciation and comfort level with breaking news situations.
Attention to detail and the ability to write and copy-edit quickly
Keen understanding of how to use analytics to guide editorial decision-making.
Experience and appreciation for the emerging genre of newsletter writing. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling all aspects of a newsletter: writing, editing and producing.
Understanding of best practices for growing a newsletter list using everything from partnerships to content to leveraging analytics and email newsletter best practices.
Creativity and a comfort level with experimentation and risk
A collaborative and team-focused attitude, with a desire to do your work with empathy, generosity and good humor.
