Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Principal Medical Records Technician for the Clinical Records department at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC).
The Principal Medical Record Clerk enforces security of information through the release of medical information process. Minimum of 3 years prior experience with release of medical information processing, working knowledge of terminal digit filing, knowledge of HIPAA regulations required. Must have excellent people and phone communication skills.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Plays a vital role in protecting patient confidentiality, ensuring continuity of care and submitting documentation for reimbursement, when answering requests for information submitted by other treating entities, insurance companies, and other requestors.
Responds to telephone requests for patient information (internal and external to UBHC) by strictly adhering to departmental guidelines established to protect patient confidentiality and maintain continuity of case as observed by Manager.
Updates outpatient charts on a back up only basis by filing evaluations, treatment plans, termination summaries, lab reports, progress notes, and other clinical documents on a daily basis to ensure that the latest clinical information is available to treating personnel.
Creates new volumes, when required for assembly and when time permits for all others by following established departmental protocol, as observed by reviewer of chart and Manager.
Files clinical documentation of the varieties named above, into outpatient charts within 24 hours of receipt by the department.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Three (3) years of prior release of medical record information processing work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations for the release of information.
Working knowledge of terminal digit filing processes.
