Within Greenheart Exchange, the Work and Travel (WT) Department has the J-1 designation by the U.S. Department of State to bring international university students to the United States on a cultural exchange program that allows them to work for a period of eight weeks to four months. Greenheart Exchange’s WT program is dedicated to extending the mission of cultural understanding, environmental consciousness and world peace by connecting enthusiastic international students and U.S. host organizations. As the only environmentally conscious J-1 visa sponsor, we pride ourselves on providing a quality experience while encouraging and enabling Greenheart Exchange staff, participants, and host organizations to work together on projects that promote environmentalism and sustainability.
The Work and Travel Department is looking to hire a full-time staff person to manage housing resources and research, and to assist the Compliance team to ensure program compliance.
The following job duties are examples of items that the Housing and Compliance Coordinator may be responsible for:
Manage the housing placements of international university students participating in the Work and Travel (WT) program
Ensure Greenheart WT compliance with SEVIS housing address standards
Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in SEVIS
Ensure that WT participants secure housing before they come to the U.S.
Assist with Compliance review of host organization seasonal placement agreements
Assist with Compliance review of sending partner supplemental documentation
Assist the Operations team with application review, employer data review, and file processing, especially during peak seasons
Test database changes and assist with new systems upgrades
Track and monitor housing issues throughout the year
Review and process pre-arrival housing address updates
Research transportation options for participants
Analyze housing reports to identify patterns and to generate housing leads
Maintain a detailed housing leads document and offer housing solutions to program participants
Draft Department of State incident reports
Serve as the internal expert on state and local housing codes
Conduct online housing-related regulations training with overseas sending partners
Carry and respond to the e-phone as assigned
Some physical requirements of the position:
While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. You will be required to lift files, open filing cabinets, and sit or stand as necessary. You will also be required to view a computer screen for long periods of time. You should have the ability to work in open office environment.
Some qualifications you should have:
Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred
Excellent writing skills
Excellent research skills
Detail oriented, self-motivated and responsible problem solver
Ability to interpret data and to create clear outlines for reports under time constraints
Ability to shift gears at a moment’s notice and be flexible; ability to change priorities
Exceptional ability to multi-task and to work in a fast-paced environment with an open floor plan
Ability to interact within groups of all ages, nationalities, ethnicities and backgrounds
Possessing a great deal of tact and diplomacy, and the ability to resolve conflicts
Excellent interpersonal skills
A genuine desire to contribute to an organization that promotes cultural exchange and environmental consciousness
