The Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP), a department within the Division of Equity and Inclusion, is the primary unit on campus charged with providing academic preparation, expanding educational opportunities, and ensuring access to higher education for low-income and educationally- underserved students. CEP's diverse programs help young people overcome educational and financial barriers to prepare for and be accepted at two- or four-year colleges. The programs provide services free of change to over seventy thousand students at 150 school and 31 community colleges each year.
The Community College Transfer Center (CCTC) provides leadership and resources to California community colleges, students, staff and communities to increase the academic preparation and opportunity for all students who aspire to transfer to four-year colleges, including UC Berkeley. The services provided by CCTC continue the educational pipeline from high school through California community colleges to four-year institutions. CCTC's work promotes the belief that transfer is critical to providing access to higher education and to California's commitment to educational equity.
In an effort to increase the transfer rate and the diversity of California community college students enrolling at UC, CEP established the Transfer Alliance Project (TAP). TAP provides intensive student academic development and enrichment services for underserved students at selected CA community colleges. TAP promotes strong partnerships between high school outreach programs, community colleges and four-year institutions by working with graduates from CEP's high school programs and participants in community college learning communities. TAP works closely with community college faculty and support programs to develop strong networks and access to resources for students.
Acting with a high degree of autonomy, the CCTC/TAP Coordinator is directly responsible for developing and implementing early identification and transfer readiness programs that provide a positive pathway for community college students to transfer. TAP coordinators develop best practices (materials, interventions, advising, and academic enrichment opportunities) to nurture successful transfer and transition outcomes for students from community colleges to four-year institutions. These best practices are disseminated to districts, community colleges, and other programs through professional development initiatives, trainings, and presentations.
Program Development and Management
Provides leadership for the design and implementation of college preparation services and culture to a set of California community colleges, such as training administrators, faculty and staff.
Works with districts, community colleges, UCs, families, and communities to create and foster a college-going transfer culture to assist help students meet their academic potential and goals
Plans and organizes district-wide and regional college-going events and activities such as developing college-going curriculum, web-based resources.
Provides professional development in community college districts and/or regions to promote and enhance a college-going transfer culture and readiness.
Provides leadership in strategic and program planning efforts that promote transfer success to UC and 4-year colleges.
Develops partnerships and networks with community colleges, other higher education institutions, and community organizations.
Organizes meetings with community college personnel and/or service providers regarding major district-wide and/or regional efforts.
Manages program components and activity budgets.
Provides complex academic advising to community college students. Develops customized student academic plans to ensure post-secondary admission eligibility to UC and other 4-year colleges.
Develops and maintains relationships with a cohort of community college students by planning and implementing individual and group advising services.
Develops and maintains relationships with parents and families to provide college-transfer preparation advising that supports student academic success and access to higher education. Advocates for students and parents.
Plans, facilitates, and conducts student enrichment events, meetings and regional conferences on Berkeley campus and at community colleges.
Communication and Reporting
Collects, analyzes, and evaluates student and program data.
Produces program reports and evaluations
Communicates and reports to CEP, UC committees and other funding institutions regarding program implementation and progress.
Shares and discusses best practices with other university participants at national meetings.
Helps maintain social media presence in a professional setting for CCTC/TAP.
Student Supervision and Training
Assists in recruitment and supervision of student workers and volunteers.
Trains, coaches, supervises, and evaluates job performance of student workers and volunteers.
Assists with fundraising and proposal writing.
Serves on department, campus and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies.
Other duties as assigned.
Comprehensive experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
Knowledge of up-to-date California community college curricula, policies, and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
Familiarity and experience working with the California community college student population.
Advanced knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultures, ethnic groups, socio-economic statuses, and backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience working with disadvantaged students, preferably in an educational environment.
Advanced knowledge of California community college and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CA privates, out-of-state, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and matriculation processes. Ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Knowledge of state and national education policies and current education theories.
Strong commitment to issues of educational access and equity.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with California community college and CC district administrators, counselors, faculty, and community contacts.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in student recruitment and academic programs. Ability to develop outreach programs, and design effective materials.
Advanced knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation and urban youth.
Maintains up-to-date information on higher education policies and issues, and assesses their impact on program strategies, disseminates information to community college and district personnel.
Demonstrated experience with program development, implementation, management, and evaluation.
