Associate degree or sixty hours of college required. Data entry experience along with knowledge of different metadata schemes and XML is preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
This position creates descriptive data (metadata) about digital library resources (digital objects and scanned items) and enters that data into library software to allow for discovery and preservation. Oversees preservation of digital items by monitoring preservation schedules and performing preservation checks on items in long-term storage.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Basic Function and Responsibilities: . Creates metadata (descriptive, preservation, structural, and administrative) for digital objects and scanned items. . Formats metadata for ingestion into preservation software. . Works with archives and special collections on projects to reformat items and prepare the items for preservation storage. . Trouble shoots problems in software such as Excel and Archivematica. . Is familiar with metadata application best practices. . Monitors preservation schedules to apply checks at appropriate intervals. . Perform preservation checks on stored materials. . Assists in creating digital objects for special projects in software such as ContentDM and DSpace. . Works with special projects as needed . Other duties as assigned
