Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Digital Humanities - Northwestern University Deadline: December 15, 2019
The Alice Kaplan Humanities Institute invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the Digital Humanities, to run from September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2022.
Applications are welcome from scholars who bring to research and teaching the theoretical, methodological, creative, and/or technical practice of digital technologies. We welcome applications from scholars who use the revolutionary potential of digital platforms to undertake innovative humanities research, and those who analyze the intellectual, methodological, and theoretical challenges of digital platforms and instruments themselves. We are particularly interested in candidates equipped to teach an advanced introductory course in the digital humanities. The capacious field of digital humanities includes the use or study of digital tools, modes of scholarly publication, video games, and network cultures, as well as research in a traditional field through computational approaches such as data visualization, mapping, or other techniques. We are particularly interested in work that addresses issues of social difference, such as race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, and disability.
The Fellow’s appointment will span the Kaplan Humanities Institute and a department or program in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. The Fellow must be prepared to teach courses that reflect expertise in the digital humanities as well as in another substantive field. Candidates must complete all Ph.D. requirements before August 31, 2020, and be no more than 4 years past their Ph.D. at the fellowship start date. Fellows should not have started a tenure track position at the time of application.
The Fellow will contribute to initiatives in the digital humanities and in public engagement. Fellows typically teach two courses (one of which may be a workshop series over the course of the three-quarter-long teaching year or a two-week summer workshop for faculty). The Fellow will give, at a minimum, one public lecture in their first year. This position is a two-year, full-time fellowship with benefits.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, 3-page research statement of the proposed project, writing sample of 15-30 pages (accompanied by relevant multimodal materials) or comparable evidence of scholarly accomplishment, and two sample syllabi for courses. Graduate school transcripts as well as three letters of recommendation (including one letter from the dissertation advisor) should be forwarded as part of the application.
