The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of RIT. Strategically critical to achieving the universitys goals, the Division of Development and Alumni Relations nurtures lifelong, mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, parents, friends, faculty/staff and organizations resulting in deeper connections, greater volunteer engagement and increased philanthropic support. We are a team-oriented, highly collaborative Division working with all areas of the university to maximize fundraising opportunities and alumni involvement.
Detailed Job Description
The Director of College Alumni and Constituent Engagement is assigned to one or more of RIT's 9 colleges or academic units on behalf of the Office of Alumni Relations, and is responsible for overseeing alumni and constituent activity within the college in support of RIT for Life. The director works collaboratively with college faculty, staff, and development professionals to lead and implement constituent engagement, stewardship, and annual college giving strategies ensuring they directly relate to divisional, college, and university goals.
Works closely with the Dean's Office, development officers, faculty and staff to direct engagement strategies for alumni, parents, retired faculty/staff, and other key constituencies in support of the university's strategic plan and RIT's $1 Billion campaign, Transforming RIT - The Campaign for Greatness.
Focusing primarily on alumni, the director works towards engaging at least 15% of alumni per college or unit in meaningful ways with the university annually, as defined by the division's engagement metric. The minimum alumni engagement percentage is subject to change annually
Plans, leads and implements strategies for engaging these constituents through social and professional events, digital engagement, volunteer opportunities, philanthropy, personal visits and other activities; both campus-based and in targeted regions.
Responsible for managing a portfolio of assigned prospects, qualifying new prospects, and soliciting and renewing annual gifts (<$5000) to the college/university and Transforming RIT campaign.
In conjunction with college and divisional partners, strategically develops and implements annual giving and stewardship strategies for college donors, with the ultimate goal of increasing alumni participation and improving donor retention.
Identifies and manages alumni involvement in various volunteer roles: college advisory boards, student clubs and programs, admissions, cooperative education and career services, development, mentoring and student interaction.
Actively seeks out promising alumni and friends of the university to recommend for special engagement opportunities including Distinguished Alumni Awards, Retiree Awards, Advisory Boards, webinars, and special attention by the President and university senior leadership
Strategically supports University and College programs as requested by the Dean and/or the Office of Alumni Relations to help engage alumni. These include: college-based programs, career programs, and community-building initiatives, as well as campus-wide activities such as ROAR Day, Brick City Homecoming, Imagine RIT, Distinguished Alumni Awards, Commencement, and Transforming RIT - The Campaign for Greatness.
Manages a set budget to achieve performance metrics and return on investment and engagement.
Leads the alumni communications strategy on behalf of the college, including print, email, web, and social networking platforms.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Travel is required
Flexibility on nights and weekends dependent on business needs
Minimum five to seven years of experience in institutional advancement, marketing, event planning, volunteer management, or higher education administration.
Strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of constituents
Ability to manage multiple programs and deadlines at one time
Well-organized, detail-oriented and have excellent follow-through.
Intermediate technical and computing skills
Intermediate skills utilizing social medial channels to connect and promote programs
The ability to be fully supportive of RITs mission.
