The Department of Mental Health, Research Project is seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator to organize and complete data collection as part of research studies being conducted within participating public-school systems funded by various federal agencies (e.g., Institute of Education Sciences, National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities). The research studies focus largely on issues related to student behavioral and mental health, social-emotional learning, school climate, and classroom-based supports for students and teachers. The research coordinator will support the collection of survey data and school-based observational data using mobile tablets.
The coordinator will oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of short-term data collectors for the conduct of classroom and school observations and school fidelity measures. Further, the coordinator will provide general administrative and reporting support to the research team.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, collecting data using computerized and paper-pencil interviewing materials designed to assess student behaviors, social and emotional skills, and school climate.
Will recruit and hire short-term data collectors and train them in the applicable tools:
ASSIST and CLASS observational tools (i.e., requiring two days of training).
School-wide Evaluation Tool, which is conducted through walk-throughs and interviews with select school staff.
Work with school administrators and teachers to schedule and assign collectors to specific schools and dates and will verify and log the confidential data into a centralized database.
Ensure that all recruitment and consent activities are consistent with the IRB-approved protocol, and that all data collection activities are completed for the assigned projects (e.g., direct assessment of students; provision of survey materials to teachers and/or parents; computerized classroom observations; entry and coding of data).
Review data collected for accuracy and generating summary reports.
Attend training to learn how to work independently to establish contact with administrators, teachers, students, and families, build rapport, and conduct unbiased computerized observations/student assessments within the school.
Meet regularly with research team as part of weekly supervision meetings.
Travel to schools, as needed, to gather scheduling information and conduct the classroom observations and student assessments.
Provide general administrative support for the projects, including scheduling of meetings and trainings, maintaining project correspondence, ordering supplies, submitting invoices, processing travel reimbursements, and procurement card transactions.
Assist in the preparation of a variety of reports (e.g., progress reports) for the State Leadership Team, collaborating agencies, participating schools and school districts, and funding agencies.
Provide support to project management, IRB, and future grant applications.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 3 years of related work experience preferably in coordinating school- or community-based intervention and/or evaluation projects.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
The coordinator must successfully complete a training on the observational data collection instruments (i.e., CLASS and ASSIST) and reach 80% reliability to continue with employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree, software programming skills, and strong writing and/or editing skills all preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency with laptops, tablets, and computers, as well as ability to operate a telephone, printer, fax, copier. Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Power Point and SPSS or other data management software.
Excellent professional judgment and discretion.
Ability to take direction and respond positively to feedback in the workplace. Must be able to work independently and self-motivate as part of a team in a high-paced research environment.
Strong supervisory and mentoring or teaching skills and experience.
Ability to give clear information and direction to others. Ability to work with others to reach a goal. Must have good oral and written communication and reading comprehension skills.
Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be a quick learner and possess the ability to quickly and comfortably adapt to the needs of a diverse and high-paced research environment.
Must be willing and able to travel in and around schools throughout the state as needed to support data collection efforts.
Ability to effectively multitask.
Technical Qualifications: Experience working with confidential data preferred. Exposure or comfort with learning programming and survey generation.
