We are looking for a talented Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Release Management to join our team to deliver world class applications to the University environment. You will be working with a smart team of Engineers, QA Engineers, and Product Managers to lead and drive the release of all enterprise software. Reporting to the VC-CFO, Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers Enterprise information technology services to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) under the leadership of the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO).

The Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Release Management manages the entire QA SDLC, CI/CD process, pipelines, version control and release management for all ITS teams and projects. Responsibilities for QA and release management cover all areas of IT with campus wide impact, including campus applications, platform configurations, databases, infrastructure and networking, including both on premise and cloud technologies
Responsible for selecting and utilizing tools and methodologies to ensure that software tests identify defects and comply with quality standards.
Establishes QA and Release Management policies and procedures, SDLC and IT standards
Establish and enforce best practices for both QA processes and Release Management
Apply advanced QA and Release Management concepts and objectives to large scale projects of broad scope and complexity.
Drafts, revises and approves test plans and scripts.
Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinates;
Collaborates with stakeholders, process owners and ITS colleagues to define and execute QA and Release Management processes.
A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff. Experienced leadership in building, cultivating and mentoring a team.
Uses and applies advanced quality assurance principles, theories and concepts to manage functional area(s) and provide quality assurance recommendations and solutions.
Experience in QA SDLC; from planning, to design, to implementation to maintenance and improvement. Complete understanding of automation strategies and tools.
Complete understanding and experience with CI/CD, build pipelines, release management, and environment management; demonstrated knowledge of current tool sets including: git, svn, Jenkins, Bamboo, AWS CLI.
Experience in both resource and project management, ability to work with other teams to effectively create estimates, timelines, milestones, assign appropriate resources and methodologies.
Thorough knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.
Working knowledge about AWS or Oracle Cloud services and products.
Working knowledge of Atlassian suite of tools, including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket and Bamboo.
Employee must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Employee must be available to travel as required.
