Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington DC. AKA is the oldest, Greek-lettered organization established by African-American, college-trained women. The sorority’s mission and purpose is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic standards, and to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women. AKA’s history includes a legacy of service and focuses on health, education, family, leadership, economics, humanities, business and the global community. Membership is comprised of more than 300,000 women in a wide spectrum of professions, including engineering, economics, computer science, business, accounting, law, healthcare and education. Members also serve on regional, national boards and committees throughout the globe.
Corporate office operations were established 70 years ago and staff members on average have worked for the organization for 10 or more years. We are currently at our highest active membership and we had record attendance at all regional and international conferences. The culture is one of teamwork, commitment, and value. Who we seek……..
We are seeking a highly proficient director of IT administration who will work under the guidance and direction of our executive director to ensure our IT department operates effectively and efficiently. The selected individual must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency, have strong customer service and diplomacy skills, as well as, have a high degree of professionalism, flexibility, and initiative.
Some of the essential functions include:
Provide leadership, vision, and management to the IT department and assume responsibility for all staff IT training and development.
Supervise and coordinate IT support services on day-to-day issues.
Manage and prioritize IT-related projects.
Recommend and implement technical hardware and software solutions.
Oversee systems development and enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems.
Provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions, and file maintenance.
Manage financial aspects of the IT department, including budgeting, and budget review.
Serve as primary contact with outside IT vendors.
Communicate regularly with the Executive Director and the International President.
Develop written standard operating procedures and policy best practices.
Coordinate all after hours response efforts and on-call schedules.
Specific Responsibilities: (Not an all-inclusive list)
Responsible for investigating and diagnosing network problems, collecting IT usage stats, making recommendations for improving the organization’s systems and carrying out routine configuration and installation of IT solutions.
Establish policies/standards and best practices for managing internal infrastructure, including networks, access rights, desktops, servers, and internal applications to improve the quality and efficiency of support services.
Responsible for overall system and infrastructure availability and develop a resilient infrastructure to reduce failures.
Responsible for day-to-day system administration, including management of internal network, VPN, Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and system backups.
Ensure systems, processes and methodologies are maintained and followed to ensure effective monitoring, control and support of service delivery.
Install, configure, test, analyze, and support new and existing servers and network infrastructure.
Coordination of system updates and upgrades needed to maintain service levels and develop and coordinate the replacement of infrastructure at end of life.
Maintain and constantly improve server and network performance, uptime, reliability and security in line with IT best practices.
Oversight of new user setup, access, training, support tickets and troubleshooting.
Develop, test, and deploy custom applications and integration routines.
Oversight of public and private-side websites.
Oversight and maintenance of organizational Firewall; SQL and DLT Backup systems and DRP Plan.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems or a relevant field. Master’s degree in computer science, management information systems or relevant field preferred.
5 or more years of relevant work-related experience in a similar role, supervising staff.
5 or more years of hands on network and database administration experience.
Professional IT certification required (MCSA, MCSE, MCD, MCTS, MCT, CCNA, CCDA, CCNA, or related).
Technical proficiency with all required IT operating systems, particularly Widows, Exchange and VPN.
Familiarity with technologies such as Microsoft, Cisco and VMware.
Experience working with Imis or netFORUM association management software a plus.
Hands-on IT Project Management experience.
In depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows Servers.
In depth knowledge of Active Directory (Design, Security and Administration).
In dept knowledge of messaging (MS Exchange, Archiving, Unified Communications).
In depth knowledge of networking technologies and concepts.
In depth knowledge of TCP/IP and network security and data protection.
Good understanding of cloud and mobile technology.
Experience with storage area networks, WAN accelerations, virtualization, firewalls, routers, etc.
Ability to effectively present technical information and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in implementing effective and innovative technology solutions and methodologies.
Expertise in web systems and servers.
Telecom, integrated VOIP, and A/V experience helpful.
Strong technical background and exposure to multi-platform environments.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to manage through organizational change.
Proactive leader who follows through to completion of assigned tasks.
Strong work ethic with a high level of initiative and ability to work well independently and on a team.
Detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
In this role, you will report to the executive director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., whose management style is to give you the autonomy to do your job. She will expect you to provide regular status updates throughout the process, be accountable for results, and have the expertise to roll up your sleeves and be hands on in the operations of the department. She motivates her team and inspires them to perform. She is looking for a leader, a communicator, a planner, and an executor that can work in a fast paced, very demanding work environment, which is typically very fluid. In this role, you are expected to meet the needs of the business which occurs beyond a typical 9-5 schedule. This includes evenings, weekends, and traveling to support the needs of the business.
The selected individual will need to be reliable, dependable, accessible, and able to multi-task and meet aggressive timelines and deadlines. The key to succeeding in this role is having the expertise to lead the department, manage the hands-on technical aspects of the role, and successfully work with staff and constituents of all levels. Our executive director is looking for someone who can hit the ground running.
