The College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE) at The Ohio State University is looking for a TraVerse Instructor for the Department of Teaching and Learning!
OSU's TraVerse is an English language training program that is remolding English training for the digital learning landscape to bring just-in-time language solutions. Powered by a research university, it is our mission to combine client needs with the latest in mobility industry trends, proven workplace language training methods, and eLearning. With each new advance, the client becomes the frontline beneficiary. TraVerse is continuing to grow and expand, and we are currently looking for additional instructors.
This Lecturer appointment in the Department of Teaching and Learning's (T&L) within the English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs which provides English language training to adult corporate learners from Japan through online learning platforms and occasional in-person meetings. The language training will be in the form of online one-on-one meetings via Zoom or similar technology. This position will be responsible for developing the program's online curriculum for learners to engage with asynchronously, tracking student achievement, and submitting reports to the Director. In addition, the Lecturer assists with Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) administration and delivers lectures at client's site.
This position will require the translation of learning materials from English to Japanese and vice versa, thus the Lecturer must be proficient in both Japanese and English and be able to speak Japanese with low-level English learners. This position will require proficiency in using technologies in English language teaching. The Lecturer will also work on additional projects as needed.
This person will work with the Director, Program Assistant, Admin Associate, and other lecturers in ESL as well as the admin staff in T&L. The position will report to the Director of Workplace and Professional English and will interact with the client regularly. The work environment is fast-paced at times and hours may fluctuate outside of the standard 9am to 5pm. The office location is Arps Hall, but most days the lecturer can telecommute.
This is a term appointment with an expected end date of 3/31/2020. There is the potential for contract renewal.
Performance Objectives In the first 60 to 90 days of employment, the successful candidate for this position will accomplish the following:
Develop working understanding of BuckeyeLearn, Zoom, and Articulate Storyline
Gain familiarity with TraVerse technology and set up workstation with appropriate tools
Develop familiarity with the TOEIC test to prepare for questions
Ensure the materials that we present to client are accurate and of high quality
Participate in relationship building and team meetings with fellow TraVerse Instructors.

A Master's level degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or closely related field
Proficiency in both Japanese and English with the ability to speak Japanese with low-level English learners
Experience teaching adult ESL/EFL learners
Proficient with using learning technologies for teaching
Highly desirable candidates will also have demonstrated success in the following areas:
Instructional design experience
Online teaching experience strongly preferred.
Target Salary: $48,000.00 - $53,000.00 Annually
