The City of Portland is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Bureau of Environmental Services!
THE POSITION: Electrical Engineers perform performs advanced professional project management, specialized engineering or developer/building plan reviews; serves as a project engineer on difficult, complex projects. Work involves applying advanced electrical engineering knowledge to the solution of design, maintenance, improvement and construction problems pertaining to the City's infrastructure (water, sewage, drainage, streets, parks and traffic management systems) and private development. Electrical Engineers are responsible for managing several projects at once and perform related duties as assigned. Work is performed independently, and engineers may seal engineering plans with manager authorization. Some positions may require a valid state driver's license.
About the current vacancy:
The current vacancy is within the Treatment and Pumping Systems Division. This position provides electrical engineering support for wastewater conveyance pumping and level monitoring systems, wastewater treatment plant and other BES engineering design projects through a combination of project management, design and the review of consultant design work. This position is the lead electrical engineer for the treatment plant, pump station, and conveyance system monitoring systems, and as such develops guidelines and standards in collaboration with stakeholders. Duties include advanced professional project management; serves as a project engineer on difficult, complex projects; applies advanced electrical engineering knowledge to the solution of design, maintenance, improvement and construction problems pertaining to the City's infrastructure and private development; specialized engineering plan reviews; may seal engineering plans with manager authorization; and performs related duties as assigned. The position regularly uses computer information systems for project management, invoicing, design reviews, project budgeting, project scheduling, response to construction documentation, and other duties.
About the bureau: The Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) protects public health, water quality and the environment by providing wastewater and stormwater collection and treatment, sewer construction and maintenance, stormwater management, and stream and watershed restoration to enhance ecosystem health in our watersheds. BES staffs Senior Engineering Associates in the Treatment and Pumping Systems Division, Construction, Design, Asset Systems Management, and Systems Development divisions.

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
Experience applying electrical engineering principles, practices and fundamentals in the preparation and review of design and construction materials.
Knowledge of communications, instrumentation, control panel design and PLC programming.
Experience searching and applying electrical codes and standards within a municipal infrastructure.
Experience interacting effectively, to problem solve and partner with customers and contractors.
Experience effectively communicating technical information verbally and in writing to both technical and non-technical individuals.
Knowledge of contract administration and project management and evaluation.
