The Director of Career and Business Engagement will manage and coordinate strategies, logistics and execution of career, entrepreneur and business engagement opportunities to engage our body of 493,000 alumni worldwide. Reporting to the Vice President of Engagement, this individual will spearhead new entrepreneurial initiatives to support the career and business aspirations of alumni, as well as generate revenue to sustain the work. This position also serves as the primary liaison for corporate alumni networks. Additionally, this position maintains strong relationships with campus partners including Office of Student Affairs, U of M Foundation, U of M Career Centers, and the Schools and Colleges.
Manage the planning, coordination and execution of UMAA career, entrepreneur and business engagement initiatives (70% of job)
Develop and implement strategies to create UMAA programs to support, educate and engage alumni, small businesses and entrepreneurs and generate new revenue for the UMAA.
Develop and implement strategies to tap the UMAA global network to assist alumni in their career and entrepreneurial aspirations. These include both virtual and physical career-related programs, services and events, including Career Month activities, increasing the number of alumni participating in both physical and virtual events.
Develop, oversee and hold accountability for program budgets; generate ticket and membership revenue from events; track and analyze event expenses.
Participate in and contribute to institutional career and entrepreneur engagement strategy by collaborating with all major resources available on campus to create efficiencies, improve communication, enhance the exposure of current resources, and identify new opportunities.
Develop short and long-term goals for programs in consultation with the Vice President of Engagement.
Provide alumni engagement strategy & execute activities with corporate alumni networks (25% of job)
Maintain the alumni presence with major employers in Minnesota and connect a growing number of alumni working at those organizations with each other, the U of M, and student interns. Serve as the primary liaison for current and future corporate alumni networks.
Leverage and promote current alumni programs, services and communications to expand networking and career-related opportunities among alumni at partner networks.
Collaborate with strategic campus offices and schools/colleges to coordinate and enhance engagement with corporate networks via professional development and faculty speaker events.
Manage volunteer rosters, capture employment data, assess survey information, as well as track and monitor the number of alumni engaging in activities.
Assess the creation of new employer-based alumni networks based on inquiries, interest, UMAA resources, or critical mass of alumni in an organization.
Other Duties as assigned (5% of job)
Manage Engagement team projects as assigned.
Develop and execute programming that supports UMAA’s strategic goals.
Conduct thorough annual program evaluations.
Plan, execute and evaluate events and initiatives in concert with other UMAA staff.
Represent Alumni Association on appropriate committees and/or organizations as necessary.
Complete other department duties as assigned.

At least five years of experience in a closely related field.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple simultaneous assigned projects, work independently and under pressure, and establish and meet deadlines.
Proven ability to work with volunteers, speakers, and vendors.
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
Proven event planning, project management, budget management and promotional skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand the organizational mission and reflect it in event components.
Strong computer and database skills, with experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours as necessary.
Experience running revenue generating programs.
Demonstrated ability to produce webinars and run virtual meetings.
Experience in managing large events, meetings and workshops.
Ability to set and achieve measurable goals, especially in regards to growing revenue.
Demonstrated ability to envision and implement new entrepreneurial programs.
Proven ability to work across complex organizations and build relationships.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and events.
Ability to conduct program evaluation and make recommendations based on survey results, metrics, market research and return on investment.
Effective resource management skills, with emphasis on maximizing impact with limited resources.

Pay range: $70,000-$80,000 plus benefits and paid leave.
