1. Serves as the staff anchor of the entire design and production process for each issue of the magazine, troubleshooting problems, identifying solutions, and involving other magazine staff as needed. 2. Responsible for quality control of all magazine page files, ensuring precise and consistent formatting and that every editorial page adheres in every detail to the established design of the magazine. 3. Responsible for orderly production workflow and timely delivery of editorial files to press. Develops concepts for the graphic presentation of articles. 4. Cultivates long-term relationships with local and regional photographers and illustrators and build fruitful relationships with Yale students and faculty in graphic design, art, and photography. 5. Conducts planning for photos and other illustrations for every issue of the magazine, researching and securing those images. Conducts photo research to find potential photographers, illustrators, and images for the magazine. Procure existing images for possible use; identifies superior images for review and selection by all members of the editorial team. 6. Responsible for all aspects of photo and illustration management process including tracking, storing, captioning, and quality control. 7. For designed editorial files, flow in copy and lay out initial designs to magazine specifications; typeset all editorial pages; and review all finished pages for design consistency and accuracy. Review and approve all finished Alumni Notes pages for design consistency and accuracy and correct as necessary. 8. Makes necessary adjustments (e.g., color-correct) and otherwise work on photos and illustrations. Produces precise color proofs to guide printer on press. 9. Serves as primary liaison with printer to ensure that all files meet magazine criteria, correcting any problems. Acts as a liaison with printer when necessary on art issues, examining proofs and going on press checks as needed. 10. Performs related administrative duties such as tracking editorial and production tasks, preparing magazine page maps and helping to coordinate work of editors, production, and designers on print magazine pages. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.
